It's hard to see it any other way Mr Ball. It's herd immunity lite, when compared with the approach other countries have taken.

22 days of quarantine here now, without any revolutionary measures, just very strict compliance.
And the figures are starting to look spectacular in the world's worst hit country per capita (excluding midget countries).
They totally support Mr I's initial post in this thread (the bones of which were never in doubt).

For the 24 hours ending:

01/04: 8195 new cases
02/04: 7947
03/04: 7134
04/04: 6969
05/04: 5478
06/04: 3386 and the lowest number of deaths since 24th March.
Number of people recovered: 40,437 (I have no explanation for that last figure)

If I hadn't been convinced before I would be now: Just. Stay. The. Fuck. Home.

Talking about midget countries, we were on the phone to some friends who live in Luxembourg. They say the streets are full as if nothing was happening.
Having said that, Lux has tested about 40% of the whole population, with or without symptoms, so they are always going to report more cases than the others.
Which could go some way to explaining their infected rate of 4,479 ppm compared with Spain's 2,888.

Leaving the role of the Queen and the Monarchy aside, there were 24 miilion people apparently watching the speech.
If that encourages the ones who are not taking the advice seriously to get on board with the instructions and subsequently help prevent some people from dying then the exercise will have been well worth it.

I was one who left it along with obviously many more. The reason I dumped it was because the same questions are asked over and over again. Why don't the Journos organise themselves to produce a better list of questions, instead of continuously rabbiting on about the PM's health and the exit strategy.
Which part of the PM is operating on medical advice don't they understand and how many times have they got to be told it is too early to publish their exit strategy
If they organised themselves a bit better they could get more questions in and therefore scrutinize the government a bit better.
The three on the podium must have thought it was their birthday by trotting out the same answer over and over again.

The spread of the Virus is dependent on two things.
1....the density of the population.

Apparently the good folk of Greater Manchester are hell bent on proving my point.
Is it about time we started to sort out the few who think the rules don't apply to them.

The scary thing is this is only the first wave. Unless the vaccine happens, we (the world) are going to be neck-deep in the shit. You can't keep quarantine up for more than a couple of months without risking total systemic and eventually societal breakdown.

It was the second wave of Spanish flu that was the deadly one and it came only six months after the first. We're already into the fourth month of our first wave. If we've learned anything from that pandemic, then long-term travel restrictions are the very least we can expect.

if you only go numbers alone then you are correct. however 1 person who dies in a village of 100 people is the same as 10 in a 1000 population, 100 in 10,000 and so on.

Does anyone know how the statistics of corvid19 are recorded?
I see the official figure up to today is near 13k.
Is it the main cause of death or one of the contributing factors (comorbidity)

It seems that the response to the virus by this Government within the social care sector seems to be solving their problems of funding and running the social care sector.

Funny that!!!

The nightingale hospitals aren't full and the crematoriums are coping; expect lock down to be relaxed a bit soon.
Like a big wheel valve the flow will be adjusted to allow the economy to start it's revival.

This team leading us are slowly but surely getting the upper hand and the team trying to thwart them at every turn are getting more and more desperate.
Well done to the chancellor for getting his furlough payment scheme up and running ten days ahead of target.

Glad to hear it. Hopefully it gets to everyone that needs it and provides some much-needed relief. Any leads yet on this team that's trying to thwart the government's efforts? Or is it still just something that exists in your head?

After re reading the thread, although not being an expert, I still feel I can answer one of PJ's questions. Phone masts have been burned down and vandalised due to concerns/conspiracy theories etc about the damage to humans by 5G radioactivity. Here's a quote from the OFCOM report from the BBC site into comments by the self proclaimed expert David Icke:

"It said the interview, recorded on 18 March and broadcast on London Live on 8 April, "included potentially harmful content about the coronavirus pandemic".

While not mentioning 5G by name, Icke referred to an "electro-magnetic, technologically generated soup of radiation toxicity" that he claimed had damaged old people's immune systems.

He also claimed that official health advice aimed at reducing the spread of the virus were being implemented to further the ambitions of a clandestine "cult", rather than to protect public health.

Ofcom said it was "particularly concerned" by Icke "casting doubt on the motives behind official health advice to protect the public from the virus".

"These claims went largely unchallenged during the 80-minute interview and were made without the support of any scientific or other evidence." "

Yes. Hilarious. You've already suggested that there are people on this very forum who want the government to fail to deal with this crisis. Now you are saying that there is a team out there somewhere actively trying to stop them from succeeding. Can you not see that might be considered just a tiny bit mad?

Oh absolutely. Stark staring bonkers, Should have mad in me name........oh wait.
Give over John, I am not biting.
There is also a team out there trying to get me to do that. Not gonna happen.
Especially now that me gin supply has been limited to 15 bottles per day and me crack dealer is behind bars.
I'm looking for a parody with a degree in semantics. :o
Oh and just for clarity, I said it is as if they want the government to fail. You must concentrate a bit more on accurate reporting or the Times might be after you. You seem to be doing that a lot lately.
Our lass thinks you're stalking me. I can't work out whether she is happy or concerned about that. Maybe the fact that the frying pan is still in it's resting place and not flying through the air might be a clue :?
It's a beautiful day here.

You utter utter crank.

There are more than 16,000 dead, and rising, and god knows how many more not being counted. The promised PPE still isnt there, and when t gets there its less than a weeks supply for a few hospitals. The NHS staff are furious with lies and failure of the government.

The government have already failed.

I can't agree with that. I think it's deadly serious. I'm only grateful that we have such a dedicated bunch dealing with it. Sunak got the taxman into gear and delivered his furlough promise ten days early, the figures on the virus spread control are encouraging but it is too early yet to be celebrating. Boris will be back soon so there's a positive. Isn't it heartwarming that a 99 year old elderly chap has raised so much money and now 99 year old elderly lady is on the same path. There's life in us elderly old fogies still. Maybe the government should tap in on our lot. After all there is a wealth of talent and experience available amongst our group.
Never discard grannies advice.

Not knocking Captain Tom's effort at all, fair play to the man, but treating the NHS as charity is part of the reason we were underprepared for this crisis.

Charity only exists as a result of a government failing to adequately fund the problem in the first place.

Even his cause has been exploited , No 1 in the charts etc , to divert peoples attention away from the failures of this government in adequately dealing with this crisis.

The mad thing is, people are willing to contribute to charitable causes fairly regularly. Quite happily a lot of the time. And that includes people of all ages and across the political spectrum. Yet to some of them the idea of contributing a negligible amount more of their income in taxes is deemed borderline theft from the government. Taxes which could be used to spend on the more underfunded parts of society which usually rely on charity.

Granted this does rely on having a competent government with some sort of soul. Which probably does make my entire point moot right now.
