Arnold is a Poolie!

Their keeper's on a par with Harrison in the having a mare stakes.

It’s was kind of Barrow to sign another of our former players to cancel out Luke James pre match in Arran Lee Barrett!!

Magnay's strike reminded me of Ronaldinho's freekick against England. Only better obviously. Keeper looked just as surprised at the shot as Seaman did.

I shot semen when it went in unlike the 2002 Brazil strike when I wanted to shoot Seamen.

Nothing awful about that cross, best cross I've seen this season and if the rest of our squad could cross like that we'd be doing alright.

A much needed win but what a piss poor side Barrow were.
Lets face it, if we cannot beat the likes of Barrow, we would deserve to be relegated.

We outplayed them for 75 minutes, they had a decent patch just after they scored but we deserved the win.

Possible new owners and 4 points from 2 away games. Decent few days...

And who are these imposters pretending to be Louis Laing and Blair Adams? Suddenly they both look like footballers.

Have they got a mate who can pretend to be Scott Harrison?

Laing didn't stand out which is a massive improvement. Harrison turned his game around 2nd half as did Adams. Credit to them and the staff.

The second half was good we controlled the game, my man of the match was Laing I thought was having a decent game before that late block, that confirmed it.

How shite was Grant Holt when he came on by the way? He looks like an Easter Egg in a Barrow kit.

I’d get Luke James back at Pools next season.

What a result. £5 on @10/1 a couple of minutes before we scored makes me £50 better off. The 3 points was the best result of the night though for me. Just need confirmation of the takeover now to make the night complete.

Credit where it’s due we closed that second half out with relative ease and experience.

Barrow are fucking awful, how the fuck have they won that many games??

Solid display from Laing, Harrison did his hamstring at a guess so we will be without him and Donnelly Tuesday. Can’t think of another centre back? Magnay maybe with Hawkins right back?

Not got BT Sport, did we deserve our win, sounded like we did...maybe 3-1 would have been more of a true reflection. Magnay's goal sounded like a cracker !

BBC match report:

Hartlepool came out on top in a relegation six-pointer at Barrow as Carl Magnay's stunning strike earned them a 2-1 victory.

Pools, who look set to be taken over by Raj Singh this week, moved above their opponents and three points clear of the bottom four with their first away win since October.

The visitors dominated the early stages but it was Barrow who took the lead against the run of play in the 18th minute when former Pools striker Luke James was played in by Donovan Makoma and he slotted the ball under goalkeeper Scott Loach.

Hartlepool hauled themselves level in first-half stoppage-time when a long ball over the top was flicked on by Jake Cassidy and when Rhys Oates collided with Steve Arnold, the loose ball fell to Conor Newton who scored from a tight angle.

The visitors took the lead early in the second half when defender Magnay let fly with an audacious 35-yard effort which sailed into the top corner.

Michael Woods brought a good save from Arnold with a low shot and substitute Devante Rodney saw a curling first-time strike clawed away as Hartlepool comfortably held on.

Agree with this. We completely outplayed them for most of the game apart from a 10 to 15 minute spell after they scored. Some lovely approach play, carved out a few good chances and defended solidly. I can't remember them having a shot on target in the second half. Yes they were poor but we actually looked pretty decent and should have won more convincingly. Not that I'm complaining, its been a long time coming.

Who cares, it hit the back of the net. If you were rescued by an Air Sea Rescue helicopter from drowning you'd complain the winch chaffed your arms.

Gerrin ! great result. Only listened on the radio , but first time in ages enjoyed a radio commentary. Think we can safely say the players are playing for Bates now, and safety is now a distinct possibility rather than a miracle. I reckon 7 points should do it, but 5 may be enough if we beat Solihull.

You can see with both of these players that they have the ability to be decent. I would go as far as saying they should be standing out in this league. Unfortunately for them both they've had Scott Harrison sandwiched between them for most of the season, which would drain confidence out of any body. They are two players who I can safely say will join the list of players who get vilified from fans here, but move on to bigger and better things after us.

The frustrating part of Laings game for me is that he looks for the long ball far too often. Featherstone is always available for him to pass to, but he always looks long. I was just moaning about it last night when he did it again, which led to our first goal . Having Cassidy isolated alone upfront with Laing knocking them balls to him constantly was painful to watch. Thankfully with two upfront last night it worked.

It's very annoying actually, as I don't particularly think Bates has changed a lot, other than play in a more attacking shape and given the players a bit of belief in themselves. If Craig Harrison hadn't been so stubborn and given this formation a go for a few games, I'm pretty sure we'd be safe from relegation and he'd still be in a job. Our weakness is our defending, so Bates has set us up so that we play to our strengths - Oates/Cassidy/Woods. It means that the pressure isn't on the likes of Scott Harrison, which is why he appeared to have a half decent second half. It's quite frankly simple, and the fact Craig Harrison couldn't do this infuriates me. Fair play to Bates and staff for making such simple, but effective, changes.

Bold statement considering their careers have both been on a downward spiral leading to them playing on either side of Harrison.
I'm of the belief they're capable at this level but they certainly haven't shown as such consistantly this season, obviously there's been numerous factors that may have affected that so I'm willing to reserve judgement.

Got to say, fair play to Matty Bates. I didn't want him in charge, and all season I've been saying sacking Harrison was pointless because we would only end up with Bates in charge, but he has come in and slowly making progress and getting us back in the right direction. Other than a 5 minute period when they scored, they didn't really look like they were causing us any problems. If the defence can cut out those 15 minute spells where they lose their heads, we should be fine.

I think as well as giving credit to Matty we should also recognise the effect that the two new coaches particularly Ged Mcnamee who I know is a cracking coach. We do seem to have turned a corner since they joined and unpaid.

Yeah the coaching must be pat of the improvement. Still not sure about Bates, but if they are his mates and it makes for a happy camp, then that's half the battle.
