Black eye Friday...... Went out the Friday before and was dropping everyone off later so obviously not drinking. "Anything I like" I replied and crossed the toad.
He was pissed and I was stone cold sober, but you can see how trouble can break out quite easily.

There's a game called crossy road that's pretty much the same thing. Can get that on your phone for free.

I was born there, Winterbottom Avenue, I arrived early at my nana's, old girl was unimpressed.

Makes it sort of obvious that Seaton needs an overhaul, the infuriating thing that with investment is it's a nice seaside resort. I spent a bit of time of time in Filey last summer, the place was bouncing and it had nothing that seaton didn't already offer, apart from not having a couple of old derelict buildings dragging the place down.

I like what they have done at places like Roker and Seaham Harbour, but the attraction with those places, especially at the latter, is that after having a bite to eat and a look at the shops, you can have a stroll along the front.

Likewise with the Marina people will sit outside in the Summer and have a look at the boats.

The issue with Church Street is that once you get to the bottom of it the only things to see are the level crossing, a taxi depot and a scrap yard. Which I don't think people will find especially relaxing or worth looking at. I'm all for a bit of innovation, and any investment in the town is to be welcomed, but struggling to see this catching on in that location.
Even with the marina you have a job to see the sea.
Church Street has a role, as what remains to be seen, but the graphic was a bit fanciful to put it kindly.
If the shopping centre hadn't been built it would be a different matter with pubs on every corner in Lynn Street, but that was then and we are where we are.

I like Filey. It's like Walton on the Naze, a tidy place with options, yet I now avoid Whitby and Scarborough.

Drove down Marine Drive on the Headland in the summer going to a job and my oppo was from out of town. He was impressed by the beach and rock pools but wondered why there wasn't a pub on the sea front or any shops. Y'know when something is so bleedin obvious, yet you never notice it.

That Mary Rowntrees is always popular , seems to be a steady stream of folk going in and coming out. Lots of older types that then go for a stroll along the Town Wall.

Its a part of the Town that could really be transformed with a bit of investment. Already got the best chip shop in the town.

Fish face is excellent, I agree with you.

Was also in Filey this summer, seems an official bunker hang out, had a class day out. Went on a pirate ride out to see, bit of grub, rides etc kids loved it.

All seemed very clean that a bit of money had been spent.

Seaton's looking old as all investment has went into the marina.

A few lottery grants onto Seaton front instead of church street wouldn't go a miss. As you say chip after a bite to eat people tend to want to look at stuff and a coastline is ideal for that. Go for food in church street and the reality is you come out onto a street.

Church street isn't too bad on a night if you go to the right places. The council should embrace the night life, help do up the bar fronts, encourage alcohol licences and get new bar owners down there playing live music like the bunker.

Filey is a great little place...no bigger than Seaton Carew but is pleasant, clean and scumbag-free.

My grandad has a caravan at Filey and basically lives there from March to October. It's a great place with an excellent beach can also throw Bridlingtn beach into that as well and much quieter and nicer than Whitby / Scarbrough.

As an apprentice, one of the lads told us how they had a caravan at Whitley Bay and the weather was a lot nicer than in Hartlepool. Now when you consider you can look up the coast and see Souter Point in South Shields and Whitley Bay is a couple more mile up the road, you have to ask yourself how one was sub arctic tundra, yet oddly the one slightly further north was a lush semi tropical paradise...... according to him that is.

Concurring. I was in the Duke the other day with the bairn and we were both impressed.

It's amazing what they've made out of the old building, which looked more or less like a Hammer House of Horror, if it's the one I'm thinking of.

If it was the Hammer House of Horror it'll be because I was coming out.
Heard a cracking conversation at the bar. A group of well spoken folk were enjoying a meal and one of the group was at the bar and asked....."Is the sea around here tidal ?"..... Quick as a flash someone said "Just twice a day!" It seemed to bemuse him.

Well, it used to be the Conservative Club, didn't it? So it would have had an appropriate cast, ready-made!

Maybe the bloke at the bar was confusing the situation with Holy Island, and was planning to drive his 4x4 over to Seaton when the conditions were right

always thought filey was a dead hole full of saga pensioner types but sounds as if improved over the years unlike seaton. so much potential and so little investment. took my wife there years ago for the first time and she said the place has so much going for it is was unbelievable. as for church street its just pie in the sky. every town dreams up these schemes and nothing ever comes of them. cafe culture a load of horlicks. this is the north east coast not monaco.

Depends what you expect of Filey, you might still find it a dead hole by your standards, whatever they are.
