Iwould just like to put a few people right concerning my reply to the original thread, some of you seem to think that I was comparing troops to turkeys in my reply, if you had taken the care to read my reply properly you would have seen that my point was that if these pre event tributes carry on escalating as they have done in recent years, then the outcome could be as I stated in my original reply, that is not and cannot be construed as a comparison. If people cannot be bothered to read something properly or look at it and then decide to see something different, then that is hardly my fault and I make absolutely no apology for it.

I would certainly not make such a comparison, my father served abroad in North Africa, The Middle East and Europe for virtually the whole of World War Two, he was away from home for over five years, his vehicle was blown up in the North African desert resulting in hearing loss and tinnatus in later life and the dehydration he suffered resulted in severe kidney problems.

He met and actually drove Field Marshall Montgomery on one occasion. I still have all of his campaign medals and his Dunkirk Veterans medal as well as a wallet bought in Damascus containing various clippings, bits of postcards, some army issue money and a programme of events fromElwick Road Boy's Central School Speech Day in 1932. I also still have his demobilisation papers. These are all items which I am very proud of and would never part with.

I know this will have little relevence to some of you, as you have already made your mind up concerning my earlier post, but I have the utmost respect for the Armed Forces today as well as in my father's time. Today's troops do a difficult job in unpleasant and hostile circumstances in places where they should not be. While those injured should never be forgotten, there is a time to remember the killed and injured of all armed conflicts in November every year, some of you may have heard of it, it's called Remembrance Sunday.

Still don't understand why a minutes silence to a game you didn't even attend bothered you enough to have a rant about it??

Fair play to your father, sounds like a hero, as they all are.

It's a very touchy subject I'll grant you that but even if we had a minutes silence for them every single game would it be a bad thing? Personally I get a good feeling from a silence, I normally think of my late father and they put a smile on my face. He wasn't in the forces but I generally remember happy times with him. Each to there own but I'd have a silence every single game if possible.

Liverpool have about 4 minutes silences every game. They had one last week when the linesman dropped his flag.
