Well apparently the club didn't insult him.

He must have a couple of offers or trials lined up because walking away is a big risk, but he's been very clever by giving that interview and clearly leaving no animosity between himself and the club publicly.

If this is true then is anyone else concerned that we offered such an underperforming player such a good deal???

I dont understand HUFC, I never will. Idiots.

i would trust the judgements of Neale Cooper over you any day of the week when it comes to football

As he is now on the open market and hoping for a decent club in either the Championship or League 1 to make him a good offer he'd be a bit thick to say that Pools made him a derisory offer so he had to leave. No harm in Pools allowing the fans that wanted to keep Liddle to believe that he was made a very good offer either.

If there was a very low offer it isn't in the interests of either party to make it public so I don't think we can count what he said to the Mail as being the definitive truth. Sounds like he fancied pastures new and Pools weren't prepared to pay him so much that he changed his mind. I would have liked to see Cooper get him back to his best but not at an inflated price so I can live with that.

I'd be very surprised if he went to a Championship club based on his performances over the last 2 seasons.

Wasnt he in the Mail about 3 weeks ago saying how much he wanted to stay?

Kind of, he's quoted as saying 'If players can perform well between now and the end of the season – including myself – then hopefully we’ll be okay. I think it will be a good year next season with Neale in charge and hopefully it will be a successful one'.

Not the most convincing cry that he wanted to stay. Personally I think he's a bit daft, I'm not sure why he thinks he can do better than here.

Gary Liddle says he is happy to stay at Neale Cooper’s Hartlepool United

So yep, different to what he is actually quoted as saying.

ahhh knew there was something that made me think that. Just goes to show how irrelevant headlines can be.

I would tell him to bugger off if he came back with his tail between his legs.

Think Cooper hit the nail on the head.
Liddle had a poor season for us but has potential to be a very good player for whichever club he signs for.

If Cooper feels he could be an assett and the deal is right for both parties I don't see why we shouldnt have him back. I fhe doesnt find a club this could be the kick up the backside required for him to realise he's not as good as he thinks.

Basically what I got from that interview was Cooper saying the above but this also could be translated as "only good when he can be arsed"

Who really cares if he has a good season for another club, it's this club that counts.

I've seen the implication from quite a few a people over the last couple of months that they believe that Gary Liddle was coasting or not putting in a shift all season. I don't really think work rate was the issue.

If he wanted away and to better himself surely it would be in his own interests to play as well or better than he did the season before? That's the way to attract the interest of a Championship or perceived bigger club? Not playing at 70% or 'hiding' as some have implied.

It simply boils down to the fact he didn't play well, and in sport sometimes form spills over into confidence and belief and maybe you're subconsciously not getting into the best position to show for the ball or take a risk on the ball that might lead to a positive outcome? You play safe, you play in straight lines. To get a certain level you need ability, Gary Liddle has proven that he's good enough to play football in League One over a number of games. I think the same could be applied to Andy Monkhouse who chose more often than not to play a square of backwards pass rather than run at a full back, something that is second nature when his confident and playing well. The fact it's got to a stage were some fans are saying (nonsensically, in my opinion) that Liddle 'can't pass or control a ball' proves his decision to move on is the correct one as he's gone stale. That doesn't mean he didn't want to do well, or didn't try his best. Sometimes in all areas of life people need freshness and a change of scenery to get back to previous high standards. I'm not going to lose a great deal of sleep about him leaving on the back of last season but I'm also not going to forget that Gary Liddle has been a good player for Pools.

I wish Liddle all the best at his next club. He's left pools the right way and on good terms.
He was an almost ever present for us, stayed fit and injury free and never once fucked off to play the trumpet.
A model professional if you like.

Interesting twist, but my translation was "a very good player when on form, not so good when off".

Understandable from Boro, can't see why they would be interested in a player who has only been average in League 1 for the past few seasons
