The club will probably soon get a feel for how many ticket holders are likely to turn up on a match to match basis, according to the weather, opposition etc. They can then gauge how many fans they can allow to pay on the day without infringing the ground capacity.

So if they did that & sold 2,000 tickets to pay on the gate fans, how could they claim an attendance of 7674 before taking into account visiting fans?

For fooks sake hurry up and start the season.

Why for the love of god are some of you worried about counting the actual numbers that go through the gate? WHY WHY

We have sold 5674 season tickets. Enjoy it, and enjoy looking at the sunday paper stats, that have us not bottom of the attendance league.

I'm not sure any of the turnstiles have clickometers. Don't we just divide the total taken by the admission fee to get the number through each turnstile.
I think we'd have a job telling the VAT man that we've sold 5700 season tickets but only 3000 turned up.
I reckon each league game will be 5700ish plus home and away pay on the gaters.
Actually, thinking about it. Pools would have had to declare the season ticket take to the taxman and pay 20% VAT which means they only get about £83 for each adult season ticket sold.

Asked official hufc and h'Angus on Twitter. H'Angus says attendances are counted by people through the turnsriles and it is all done electronically...

Official hufc also state that they use turnstile clicks to count the gate . So I guess that clears that one up.

But if they count season ticket ownership as attendance that would mean I'll have been to every home match even though I'm stuck in France most Saturdays. And if Toulouse are playing at the same time as Pools I'll be at two matches simultaneously.

This is a very astute point Mr Creosote. Despite all the recent episodes of Doctor Who the other posters had failed to notice that the future and past are almost certainly different from each other. We have been fairly shyte a lot in the past but now we're going to invest the funds from selling the space ships to ensure a happy future of flowing football. why would the club bother counting the turnstile clicks every week, other than the pay on the gate ones? Makes no sense at all from a commercial point of view, and bollocks to the fact that there might be fewer folks than the tickets sold. I want to see those higher attendances printed every week!!!
