The problem any keeper has is when they make a mistake it usually ends up as a goal conceded, and that's what everyone remembers. A forward misses loads of chances to score each season, and everyone remembers their goals, not those misses. As previous posters have mentioned, Coventry, Cardiff and Swansea fans think Dimi is shit, based on one or two mistakes, our perception, generally speaking, is that he is one of the best keepers Pools have ever had.

I say give the guy a chance. Remember a couple of seasons ago when we played Swindon first up & their keeper (Brezovan?) had an absolute stormer & we all thought he was the dogs?
I believe he's been given the bums rush at Swindon. If these guys get pelters before they've even set foot on the training ground it's no wonder their performances are a bit shaky. Their confidence is shot to bits before they even start a game!

Last 2 seasons when things were going badly for our keepers (and defence) we were told that we couldn't bring in another keeper, on loan or to buy, as we already had 3 on our books. This time with Flinders & Cook there would be scope to bring in someone, at least on loan if things did not work out.
I hope things do work out and that Flinders becomes a great keeper, he has to be better than the 2 we've had for the last 2 years.

If your mate saw all of these 'widely awful' performances whilst on 'various loans', in person then fair play, if however he didnt see them at first hand the argument carries no weight.

The previously mentioned Breznovan fete on opening day was the best goalkeeping display i have witnessed first hand, the guy is currently out of work !!!!

Besides, Nelson has gone (thats at least three goals less appearing in the goals against column) we appear to have a recognised right back, new centre half pairing, looking at a left back etc. Personally i am looking forward to the new season whatever it may bring, let's just wait and see.

Bringing two threads together, maybe this will be the answer to the problem of experienced backup for the coming season.

"My source has corrected his rumour this evening and the confusion is understandable, our new keeper coach will be Darren Ward who was at Sunderland (on the playing staff) last season but was born in Worksop. So it's not Sunderland's keeper coach it's one their keepers.

The international experience comes from his five caps for Wales."

Once we complete our brand new defence with a quality left back, it won't matter. The ball will never get as far as our penalty area.

By nature my glass is at least half full and I have renewed my season ticket for the first time in 3 years despite living in the real "up north" (apologies to our scottish supporters as everything is relative).

Anyway I share Chips concerns over Flinders whos record doesnt look great particularly the number of short term loans.

Would have prefered a more experienced keeper (plus a second in place by now) but as has been said, he's ours now and I hope he proves the doubters (inc me!) wrong.

And there should be nothing to doubt. The lad played 9 games for a crap team in the scottish prem and kept 3 clean sheets and only let in 7 goals in the other games. He will be fine....

and your point is..... I remember dimi making two or three howlers in the space of two games. Cardiff will recall similar experiences. Most keepers make mistakes especially when they are young. And for a keeper he is very young. Remember calamity james? Englands best keeper now who occasionally still makes mistakes. A few palace fans still believe he will go on to bigger things which is good enough for me.

a young keeper with bags of potential. While he does make a few mistakes still had an excellent record in the scottish prem. With experience that record will improve. He is already better than alb and budtz so im not bothered.

Agree with Chip although despite Turner now starting to mention Mark Cook, I would be very surprised if we don't get another keeper (hopefully more experienced) in over the next couple of weeks.

Can I belatedly request yet again that we let him prove himself, then if he's cack, we comment then......?
If I was the lad reading this board, I'd feel my confidence ebbing away already. sadx
As for opinions on players, read the report on Matty Robson signing for Carlisle in the Echo, it was being talked up like they'd signed Ronaldo. I then began to wonder if there was another Matty robson. sctatchinghead

Of course there is another Matty Robson Snowy. The one that some educated people on here preferred to have in the team above Andy Monkhouse.

At one point last season, Monky had been well off it, was replaced by Matty who played so well that Monty couldn't get back in for a good while.

I can't believe he could be any worse than than the last two goalkeeping divs, for that I am truly thankful and let's not deny it hopeful.

Robson put in more man of the match performances than Monkhouse did last season.

Not that it was particularly hard.

Robsons career at Pools can best be described as ...... long spells of erratic intent interlaced with passing spells of utter genius. Sadly, the spells of utter genius were vastly outnumbered by the spells of eeratic intent...result, frustration.
During one match i had a vision of those cute chimps they used to launch into space and had the thought of it swapping roles with him...I can still see him smiling in a confused manner being strapped on top of 90,000 gallons of highly volatile fuel.
The monkey scored twice and earned a penalty.
