well my point is that we start looking at building a team for the future.

to that end id get rid of :

budz... not good enough

humphreys....sorry but he has to go

collins....too slow

boland....unable to withstand the pressure of the modern game at his age

foley...with a degree of reluctance

robson....with a heavy heart

mckay.... because he isnt up to it.

mcunnie...because he isnt good enough

power...because isnt up to it.

that 9 binned.

id also accept that porter will leave. so thats at least 10 gone. i would also let alb go if i was able to bring a really good keeper in.

i know some have said how are you going to replace all of them, but i reckon it would be a piece of piss. loads and loads of clubs are making huge cuts to their playing squads and there will be more good players on the market than ever before.

you would still have nelson, clark, monkhouse, jones, rowell, sweeney, brown and liddle who are all in their 20's. bring in another 8 or 9 quality free transfer signings like dimi, nardiello, guy, parker or boydie, tommy miller, this kid from leicester etc and you have the basis of a very young and exciting side.

Very good post. (probably because I agree with it!)

How do you know he doesn't like playing right wing? He's played there for the majority of his Donny career and is well thought of. He'd be a good right winger for us which is an area we need strengthening to allow our only ready made 20 goal a season striker to play in that position. He is flexible in when he can play and is proven at this level, I'm genuinely shocked that people are dismissing what he could potentially bring to the team

He said himself he isnt keen on playing right wing and that he classes himself as a striker.

This club would be so much more successful if we had people in charge who would play people in their natural positions instead of moving people to where ever is needed.

Its not rocket science.

I don't see any merit in realising the likes of Robson, Humphreys, and Collins. You might not see them as regular starters but you don't have a squad of eleven players. Robson apart from four games before he got injured (when he played like someone who'd won a competition to appear in a professional football match!) has had his best ever season, Humphreys has been ever present and is the club captain, and Collins was bought for £60,000 and probably isn't even out of contract. Power will be under contract, but for what he'll be costing I see no merit in letting him go he deserves at least another year to try and force his way in. I'm half and half with Foley, at times he adds something but he has had plenty of chances meaning with reluctance I'd let him go. Mackay simply will never be good enough, McCunnie has been a poor signing something about him I don't like, and Boland has to go. Budtz is another obvious release, so that's 5 out of the door for me.

I'd love to know the last time a club brought in 9-10 players and it worked, that is a very dangerous game.

Is anybody adding these up to see what our concensus is? (hint, hint)

There's a difference between going out and going out and getting hammered. I'm out with the lad the majority of times when I'm home and he barely drinks.

well i heard different but to be fair i would take your word above that of absolutely anyone else on this board . so i will retract that comment.

Power came to Hartlepool knowing no one, and soon made mates with what I'd term a decent group of lads (they're my mates after all) who like a night out and a laugh, as any 20 something lads do. Power stays on the soft drinks on a friday night but he'll have a drink on a saturday night, as most pro footballers will. I've known the lad long enough to know he wouldn't be stupid enough to get arseholed on a friday night in front of people he'll know will be Pools fans. He's not that daft.
