Not being funny here, it is not tidy but heavily subsidised as you well know - and is therefore is not a blueprint for other lower league clubs, including Darlo, to follow.

Was it Terry Venables that said....'Clubs should look at the likes of Crewe, Hartlepool and A.N.Other to see how a Club should be ran'!!!! :coool:

This was about 5 years ago in an Autobiography....I'm not sure whether it was Venables though!!!! confised

It was Jimmy Greaves and this is what he said in his 2003 Autobiography....

"It is no coincedence those smaller clubs who are not facing financial ruin have a ceiling on wages and stick to it, among them Crewe, Walsall and Hartlepool United. A ceiling on wages makes for a rougher ride for those negotiating salaries and it may even result in a club missing out on a player. But it's better for a club to work within the parameters they have set out for themselves than to slide into considerable debt. Problems occur when a club's expectations exceed their realistic ambitions. In all probablility Crewe and Walsall will never make the Premiership, though that is their ultimate goa. But with prudent housekeeping and realistic ambitions such clubs can enjoy relative success. maore than half the clubs in the Conference League have a Full-Time playing staff. The majority exist on relatively meagre attendances, but have cut their cloth accordingly. In my opinion English football needs more clubs to be run like Crewe, Walsall and Hartlepool."

I always knew Mr.Greaves was an intelligent bloke!!!!

PS....I told you I read books Mr.Sussex!!!!

Obviously Greavsie didn't know that IOR were subbing you to the tune of 500k - 1 million notes a year then.

I remember your two promotions from L2 where you were able to attract good players that we couldn't because you could pay better wages than us, Gabbiadini for example.

The only difference between us now and Pools is you have owners who don't look likely to pull the plug.

I see Darlo's official site has changed Whites comments about the big 4 North East teams, it's gone from Pools to York they just couldn't handle the truth.

Mr Quakerz - IOR are subbing Pools to the extent that you say but there is control over the finances, something which the management of Darlo don't seem to of had. I think you will find that many lower league clubs are subsidised to the same / if not better extent than what Pools are. Huddersfield, Peterbrough and Doncaster are just some of the clubs off the top of my head that have splashed the cash in recent years. Darlo have splashed the cash and gambled the whole existance on getting promotion quickly. Reynoulds, Davies and Haughton have never really revealed the true extent of money that Darlo are losing.

Really those in charge at Darlo should of taken the advice of Gary Barlow and 'just have a little patience'. DFC have had a good youth setup for a long time but not used it effectively, fans of DFC have demanded promotion and many think DFC are something they aren't - it is only now that reality is hitting.

But it isn't Debt and IOR know how much to spend and not to spend and they also haven't built a 27,000 seater stadium....cos they know we don't need one!!!!
So I'm happy with that!!!! :coool:

Not strictly true. Half demanded promotion, the other 3 weren't that bothered...

That is shocking. As if he would have said Conference side York. That's why there is an exclamation mark after it. Tossers.
