That's a pity, Salty, it was a histori event after all in my mind Obama winning goes right alongside the great events like the wall falling in Berlin.

Their banking system caused the credit crunch which cause the economic downturn and likely recession that we're suffering at the moment.

Whether you like it or not, what happens in America affects people around the world.

Today is a historic day: if Martin Luther King Jr could have been alive today, as well as Abraham Lincoln etc, they would have been proud of that nation choosing him to be President. It shows how far the country has come.

Americans have got a lot of stick in the last eight years as they have been stereotyped like those who have acted irresponsibly under Bush. Under Obama, I think Americans are now a different and changed people.

Was Abraham Lincoln black like sctatchinghead well i learnt something new today.

me too - I only ever have the documentary channels on in the house if I have control of the tv
I read the news on the internet, and anything I don't particularly want to know/read about I simply don't click on that story.

No it doesn't. Some countries just get on with it and mind their own business. Please never believe what you read on the BBC website.

That's a pity, Salty, it was a histori event after all in my mind Obama winning goes right alongside the great events like the wall falling in Berlin.[/quote]

I worked in the touchdown when the wall came down, this Hungarian/ eastern european chap used to come in for a pint and a sarnie on a lunchtime and was watching the telly absolutely glued to the events with tears streaming down his face. In his broken english he said "I never thought I would live to see this"
One of the regulars whispered to me
" what the fecks up with him like?"
" they are pulling the Berlin wall down" I whispered
He half sorted of nodded knowingly, leant forward and whispered
Did he build it like?"...

Of Hungarian/eastern European appearance, and speaking broken English ... he was probably a Headlander.

He was actually quoting the O'Jays (is an apostrophe appropriate there?).

I see he's promised to end the suffering and slaughter in Africa. That'll be a first.

Sorry PoK you're just starting your 'historic' career.

You'll find these people make great claims followed by great excuses why their promises didn't happen.

But they do all end up rich.

Maybe you'll be a rich politician, you seem cynical enough.
