Blast from the past

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

I don't for one moment believe Raj closed it out of spite. The real question is does he have a " scoobie do " how to run a successful football club sctatchinghead

How do we know that It was Raj's decision to close the Town End???
I heard it was Rose Stoker's decision but there isn't any proof of that either.
It certainly appears that Raj pays more than just a passing eye to cost reduction so I would imagine he instructs his staff along those lines. Nothing wrong with being a control freak as long as it is advantageous to the operation and not just an obsession. Personally I wouldn't have closed the Town End but I am not in possession of all the pros and cons involved in the decision process.
Why would anybody close it out of spite and to spite who???? Spite is an emotion. Businessmen don't generally do emotions. Is Raj known to be spiteful, His generosity towards Ukraine certainly didn't suggest spite unless he has a personal grudge towards Russia.
If you actually think about it we know very little about Raj, which is probably why so much is made up about him. The only definite influence I can recall about his involvement with Pools is that he got involved when nobody else was interested {apart from Stelling). The rest is at best educated guesswork which of course could be accurate. On the other hand..............

There are lots of words frowned upon in today's world and most of them used to be used to describe someone or something. If your formative years were full of these now frowned upon descriptions there is reason for tolerance when an eighty year old comes out with something that is locked in his brain. I still refer to ten bob sometimes or forget to say a chinese for tea instead of a chinky. I used the words Taffy, Jock or Paddy but usually in a friendly manner. No malice or intent to abuse or degradation even enter my thoughts.

exactly. i seriously doubt a single welshman, irishman or scot who has half a brain would be offended by anyone calling em that unless the rest of what is being said is said in a bad way about them individually or as a race. as i have said why do you need to think twice before you call your local chinese takeaway a chinky before you go. you are not saying that you are not going or never will enter tthe place because its run by a chinky. funny how the latter will never receive stick because they do not mention the subject but have a bigger agenda than those who have said the same thing for years on end without offence. remember offence is taken rather than being given in many cases. asylum seakers and illegal immegrants are the same person but a lot depends on your politics or thoughts which you class them as.

I ‘m always amused by the term ‘cultural appropriation’ where you adapt a dress code or style of another culture…White men with dreadlocks get accused of this, but if anyone who is not of European extraction was wearing a suit could they be accused of ‘cultural appropriation’ which just shows how stupid it is ..or is it a one way street….?

the questions were much harder than they are now and you can add mastermind and university challenge to that. i,m sure my general knowledge has not improved over the years so why can i answer far more questions in those two programmes than i once did. much better though on anciant greeks than i am with pop music and cinema after the early 60,s.

Sterilised milk was its proper name, and you can get it in Morrisons - but it tastes shite out of a plastic bottle. :(

SPELLING BEE
When
31 MAY 1938
Spelling Bee was first transmitted on BBC television at 10pm on 31 May 1938. Beamed live from Alexandra Palace, the 15-minute show involved the host Freddie Grisewood asking contestants to spell various words, and was based on a successful radio format adapted by the BBC from the US schools' Spelling Bee competitions. The show ran monthly for just five episodes.

Wow stomper I had no idea we even had t.v back then. For some reason or other I thought we only had radio because of the stories about people listening to WW2 on radio. I would have guessed t.v. would have come about after the war.
