We'll never really know how much impact that decision will have on the match as Trott could have gone next ball.

The effect of the Agar one is a lot more black and white and there's no excuse for it.

We take the lead....hopefully much of the same discipline from these two will see through to a sound position come
6.30. Gripping stuff and little between the two teams

despite all the drama and shocking bowling and deplorable third umpiring, its been an amazing day.

Above all, when Trott went (rightly or wrongly) Cook's call to Pietersen must have been 'Don't lose your wicket,' and judging by the run rate, that's where we are. I reckon if we lost another before we caught them up, it was game over.

Also I had to spend most of the evening with a bloody Aussie..... sadx

England are one good session in the morning away from being back in control of the match. As it stands it's pretty even, England slight favourites.

Well aye, Cook needs to rein Pietersen in, get him to play at his best and not throw his bat at anything and they can set up a good platform. The last Aussie pair will never do that again and their middle order is very sus. Plenty of time.

That's terrible. No one should ever have to undergo that.

Just been reading more about these umpiring decisions and they really do get worse.

Both the Agar Stumping and Trotts dismissal are truly mind boggling decisions from a third umpire with camera to help him.

Jonathan Agnew, being typically uber fair, almost sickeningly so(for gods sake grow a backbone and say it like it really is for once), tried to justify the decision of Agar, claiming the third umpire was just being very careful...........as one or two decisions had gone against batsmen in the recent past.

Could this be the very reason football should not introduce technology?

Whats the point? If the person in charge of it, still deliberately gives the wrong decision, whatever the reason for it?

Oh, and he did deliberately give the wrong decisions.

Sorry but your analogy regarding football technology is flawed as in football its only going to be used for matters of fact and not opinion, e.g. did the ball cross the line. This is controlled by a computer not a man. Cricket / Rugby are using it for matters of opinion and this is where the grey area lies its not the technologies fault but the bloke saying yes or no.

56 ahead but 3 down.

Bell and Bairstow have to improve or we are in huge trouble.

Effectively 66-3.

I'd say that was pretty well but still loads to do with a vulnerable middle/lower order

It's the first time I've felt the Aussie bowlers have put us under pressure.

Bairstow and Bell are both out of nick but if they can scrape some kind of partnership then it'll swing back our way.

Still impossible to call

Totally agree. Its hard to know what would be good target to set, but the pitch is defo getting harder to bat on.

He struggled. Maybe one more chance?

Lets face it, he is not to blame for this mess.

Or bowlers and captain created this yesterday.

We should be sat with nearly a 300 lead now.

In his defence he has hardly batted much to get the practice in. I think we'd be a stronger all round team with Bresnan in but they won't change the balance of the team

After the way Finn Bowled I could see Bresnan coming in for him.

Unless he goes well in the last innings.

He should be up f r it.

If we lose cook and flower bear a lot of responsibility, they should have kept faith with Compton, instead they move root up from where he showed decent potential and bring pub cricketer bairstow back in the side
