Whilst visiting a site it suddenly produced a message saying that a trojan and virus had infected my PC

I have AVG Free software and ran a test which locked the viruses in a vault, however, I cannot get rid of a Windows bubble saying a spyware infection has been detected and recommending a special antispyware tool be used to prevent data loss.

Every now and again another message comes up offering to download special anti spyware tools, advising me that my pc is making unauthorised copies and redirecting me to another website offering antispyware

What do I do to get rid of the viruses and these message without visiting a pc repair shop which will undoubtedly cost money

cheers

Calm down they're just trying to sell you something. AVG will catch your viruses as long as you keep it up to date. Reboot, your computer then run your spyware software. I assume you've got Ad-aware or something similar?

Have you got an anti-spyware application as well? if not this is excellent and free:

I had a similar problem and if you've got System Restore active, the little bugger just reinstalls itself. I disabled System Restore, ran a virus cleanse and then re-enabled it. Job done. From what everyone says it might not be that dramatic though, just annoying. Have a look in your boot up menu and see if there's anything nasty.

Dowload the latest version of adaware with the latest updates.

Running this should clear up the problem.

UPDATE

AVG ran several times (but looks like it doesn't include antispyware)

Small yellow triangle in bottom right of screen near clock that pops up "WINDOWS ANTIVIRUS. Windows has detected spyware infection bla bla bla.

This re-pops up as soon as it is closed which is totally pi55ing me off

Also every now and again another message pops up of similar nature and ants to redirect me to another site

When signing on to broadband, as well as the normal home screen, another tab opens as if its trying to conect itself to another website (which I quickly close)

Finally, on my start menu, i have no control panel to try and restore the system, and on the main desktop, cannot access properties as it says "Operation cancelled due to restrictions on my computer. Contact administrator". This has never happened before

Thanks for the free antispyware that i'm now downloading, is there anything else I can do or should do

cheers
