There was a sort of debate the other week about avatars of a demeaning and juvenile nature and most people saw the point. However don't let me come between you and your democratic rights. Will just sign off at this point........

Yes I know I am a tree hugging, liberal, lefty type social worker person but Grave's avatar is rather insensitive and demeaning for some. We'll be complaining that we do not have many females visiting the site before long.
The site seems to handle racism well - i.e. it is not allowed and I think that is to be applauded, can we have the same rule for overt sexism?

Whatever happened to comedy?

It's not as if anybody means anything when related to sexism.

...it's a football message board.

One persons comedy may be offensive to another, would you use the same excuse for racist humour. Maybe if the avatar had been used for a limited time, say a week, it could have been regarded as a joke - but how long can someone listen to the same joke.

Sorry if any offence has been caused. I will change it now. Originally her nips were covered but Mr Escape Goat wanted things changing.

Therefore it is his fault. I will however change it and put up with the wrath of Mr Escape Goat when he realises.

Apologies (on his behalf) once again. :uhoh: sadx

Right I have changed it to a little gif of a couple of disney characters. No one could be offended by something so innocent and cute. Image

My three year old did ask "what's that woman doing lifting her vest up daddy?" and I was a bit worried coming on here sometimes cos this lass from round the corner who's 11 comes round here to play with my kids and I didnt want her to see it. Plus I like to come on the Bunker while at work and its not appropriate for the type of work I do.
So even though I didnt grumble I do appreciate it being changed, even if I know what I find the most alluring

Apologies for any awkward moments BWH!

I was not planning on keeping it as the woman lifting her top up but someone joked on about how her nipples should not have been covered hence why I changed it.

I will keep them more tame in future!

I hardly think saying something about women being only good for the kitchen is hardly on par with calling someone African-American a darkie/wog/etc. I've never seen a gender riot or women getting hosed down on the streets, or made to sit in separate cubicles/bus seats, or under an apartheid structure.

I hardly think paralleling a pair of tits with a struggle born out of slavery is a very good argument.

And most good comedy these days will offend someone. I couldn't give a flying fook which PC drone I'm offending by anything I say. I'm not sexist or racist or anything like that. For Christ sake, I'm ginger and overweight. I've had that shite all my life rolfl

EDIT: If the girl who's doing it enjoys it (which I assume she does), how is it really that demeaning? I mean, she's probably gotten paid loads for that (considering it's an internet viral). 100% of women are familiar with breasts and a good 90% of men are too. It's not as if she's sliding a luncheon meat truncheon in between them

It was the group that brought the world Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep. They are my favourite band of all-time. I won't rattle off obscure groups to look clever Jonny. Middle Of The Road were the greatest, Sally Carr (who's delectable buttocks grace my avatar) the finest Female Singer ever.

No the best female vocalist ever is Pink closely followed by Enya closely followed by Kelly Llorenna closely followed by Andrea Corr......

There was a similar argument about censorship on another board that I use, basically we decided that we wouldnt post pictures that we wouldnt want our boss or kids to see.
Words are OK,If your boss or kids walk into the room you can close a page before they read them, but pictures can be seen at a glance.
On that note if anyone would prefer me to change my avatar just say so & it will be done.

Im sorry to say it but I think your avatar is degrading and should be changed.

How degrading is it to suggest that green smilies have nowt better to do than to hide up lasses skirts with their tongues out!

Disgraceful

ps, as an aside some of the smilies are a bit 'risque' especially the one where the smiley shoots water out of his arm into the other ones mouth.

First, thanks to Mr Grave for responding in that gentlemanly manner :sweeeet: and other people for their comments.
I'm not sure why Mr GP thinks it's either funny or OK to say women are good only for the kitchen, or
why he thinks the history of women isn't almost exactly akin to the history of black people. But I could recommend a few good books if he's interested.
In fact, I wasn't making a point about pc at all, but about what I felt when I kept seeing the original avatar. If you don't think that sort of thing crystallises a certain sort of response in some men (tho not Grave, as it turns out) you've only got to look at katcha's stock responses whenever anything whatsoever about women comes up. He'd quite clearly like no women to post on the Bunker at all, and it makes me wonder how many other bunkerites feel the same? Wouldn't want to outstay me welcome, like

I personally think that the whole world is taking politically correctness too far. I still call postmen, firemen etc men and not person like you're supposed to.

With regards to the beer advertising. It's simple, if you like it, you'll drink it regardless of how it'd advertised.

Personally I think the PC/sexism thing has been done to death now. We know what you're all about, you know what we're all about. You call us stupid Neanderthals, we make jokes about kitchens and shoes. Surely everyone with a brain realises that no-one at all believes what they're saying?? Except the marketing industry.

How about 'vive la difference...??' and let's put it all to bed??

Separate beds naturally 'cos we'll be snoring and farting.......

As I see it, you shouldn't define a person or a group in a certain way and then use that definition to keep the person, or group in an inferior position, you should be able to see the 'real' person and not the stereotype. There are all sorts of daft off-shoots of this idea but that's just because daft people don't understand the reasoning behind it..so you can no longer notice, for instance, that someone is black without being called racist, and you have to call postmen 'postpersons'...I agree all that is just not the point.
But when it comes to joking, there's a sticky question. If you don't listen to what someone's saying because you're just waiting for the moment when you can jump in and say 'a woman's place is in the kitchen' or the equivalent, that's not so good for the woman, is it??
I think ADG's point is just advertising bilge isn't it. I see your point, but advertisers are always segregating people like thaon some basis or other.

But as I said, my original point wasn;t about pc at all. It was about feeling very uncomfortable about the idea of being associated with a pair of boobs.

Of course I'm a pc wanker for not letting an 11 year old lass from up the road see me on the computer with women lifting their shirts up to reveal their tits, either totally embarrassing her and/or making her go home to tell her mam or dad.
That would be a great thing to do in a little village like that; get me a lovely name.
(Plus her dad's hard)
As for women on the board, we could probably do with more of them rather than less, but I wouldnt be surprised if some females were put off by some of the stuff posted on here.
Still I understand football grounds are still populated by mainly males and I like stereotypical male humour as long as it doesnt go over the top or exclude others.
Yours thankfully
PC Wanker :sweeeet:

One persons comedy may be offensive to another, would you use the same excuse for racist humour. Maybe if the avatar had been used for a limited time, say a week, it could have been regarded as a joke - but how long can someone listen to the same joke.

I'm not sure why you think that I think it's okay. I paralleled a racist and a sexist comment. Sexism has been taken in jest for years - don't know if it's just me - but as much as I don't subscribe to either discipline as a form of humour, there's many more things I'd prioritise in terms of discrimination if the thing that spurs a conversation relating to sexism is a pair of tits on a message board about football with 99% male involvement.

I know what kind of bloke grave is from his posts - it's not that hard to read into people's mindsets - and I certainly know that he isn't doing it as an act of sexist behaviour. I've seen much worse in terms of avatar on here - a man in a corset sticking his cock in a Range Rover's exhaust pipe for example. There's even a smiley of someone getting sucked off. What's the point in complaining though?

You only have to look at Katcha's alleged postings to know that you should be judging him and not the environment for such a problem. I don't know enough about them to make a judgement, so I won't.

And I'll turn down the books, thanks. I did Women in History as a second year module at Uni and I'm fully aware of the struggle they've gone through, and the fact that they're still unequal. I could go into plenty of arguments on how feminism is overboard, how women in sports generally have an easier time of it due to physical differences and so on, but I won't. Women and men ARE different. Black women and white women, or black men and white men aren't (unless you're on about the amount of bones in their feet). Sexism and racism are incomparable in terms of magnitude and impact, especially in today's modern Western society.

And Mr Baptist - fair enough on the second point like  The first one would be interesting though.

On a serious note I fail to see how a bear spaffing into a foxs mouth is less offensive than a woman showing off her chebs. *

What do you make of yesterdays news that Camra are trying to get brewers to advertise beer to attract women to drink it.

Now forgive me if this sounds at all sexist............but..............why the hell should they?

Women make up half of the potential real ale market, yet nothing like half of them partake. Therefore it makes sense to market to them in order to get them to at least try it.

It's a bit like Tesco branching out into India and China etc, just more market share to capture.

I don't think the CAMRA strategy is sexism in reverse, just appealing to a different 'market segment'. A bit like how moisturisers and so on have been marketed heavily to men in the last few years.
