A message from BBC Sheffield journalist Rob Staton

He tweeted: “I’ve been asked to pass this on, on behalf of Ronnie Moore, Rotherham United’s legendary former player and manager.

“Ronnie says he has been diagnosed with Myeloma, a type of blood cancer. It is treatable but not curable and will need to be managed. He will receive treatment for the next few months and will wait for a stem cell transplant in the near future.

“He says he is currently feeling well and walking regularly. He will carry on as normal and you will still see him at games. He continues to work in football and we’re hoping to have him commentating with us on BBC Sheffield for Rotherham games.”

May i just add that Ronnie was a player for us [Charlton] in the early 80's where he played as a centre forward & also a centre half under manager Lennie Lawrence & still fondly remembered at The Valley'.
Lets hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Be brave and positive Ronnie as you were both as a player and manager. You are an adopted Poolie fondly remembered as the architect of the great escape. I still have a picture of you in a Rastafarian wig at a fancy dress away game. Best wishes Ronnie.
