A very good referee. I remember him refereeing a pools darlo game and was very impressed with him.

I remember seeing him ref quite a few games at H.Q. before he was promoted to the PremierShit. He was always fair, and the players seemed to like him too.

During one game, one of the Poolies on the Millhouse terrace, shouted that he looked like Hot Chocolate's Errol Brown - He took it in the spirit that it was meant, thought it highly amusing and was pissing himself laughing! .

RIP Big man

Fond memories of a game at Edgar Street where he reffed the first game I ever saw us win. Think Buddy Halliday got a late winner if memory serves. No age. RIP.

Made his debut at Darlo and had a mare! Then played nearly 20 mins injury time in our cup game at Solihull and blew for full time right after they had equalised! They think his watch had stopped…..

Despite that, he was usually a decent ref and it’s sad to see him go. Didn’t realise he had been paralysed from the waist down for a couple of years too.

Absolute respect, - he will have endured some serious racial abuse back in those days but he just stuck to his job and did a very good one at that. RIP fella.

its what probebly made him better and stronger unlike today when others bleat on about it. with his size and demeanor would you have argued with him. its more than just knowing the laws of the game backwards to control a game. if he had been a long streak off piss or a little finger wagging fuss pot i doubt he,d have lasted long. however he was not the most popular referee for linesmen to go out with. he just wanted to make all the big decisions himself and treat lino,s like sunday league ones where he wanted minimal involvement from them. if they got into the shower before him also they,d never do it second time by what i have heard. like us all nobody is perfect and we all have our ways.

Got a mention on the Boom Radio news at 1pm.

Seemed a decent ref whenever he officiated at our games. RIP

Was he not a black belt in karate?

And he sent off Easter (sub who came on for 2nd half and only lasted 9 mins) in our play off game home to Blackpool 16th May 2001.

Great Ref.
