I was at the game, I went to Cardiff full of confidence that we would turn them over but it didn’t happen. Said it before if that goal was in the Premier League it would have been repeated again and again.

Halcyon days, but only at Hartlepool, could our so called golden period end up with us not winning anything. It was nice though, winning more games than we lost, for around 5 years or so.

I enjoyed his goal away at Rushden when he took the ball off the goalie who was fannying about and ran along the line and slotted it in …too thr massed ranks of the away support.

Remember his first goal v Shrewsbury.
Slotted it in from an almost impossible angle from in-between corner flag n penalty area Rink end.

A truly player just blessed with skill.

Think he went of the rails later with drink gambling etc.

Say no more

So who's been our best strike pairing in recent years, Porter/Boyd Allon/Baker or Armstrong/Oates and who'd we prefer to have back if it were possible.

All good players, but tremendous as a partnership. If only one of our managers had had the gumption to play Mani and Joe as a strike pairing (instead of isolating Mani up top and sticking Joe out wide) and stuck with them for a bit we might have had another tremendous partnership to remember.

but it did happen in the past and both looked better then than they do now. again its one track thinking and not trying the obvious again.

Payback for Turley, another odious fookin goalkeeper.

Would have loved to see Cooper go 4-3-3 with Porter, Boyd and Effion.

Can't beat Joe Allon and Paul Baker for the number of goals they scored together, but calling 1990 'recent' is a bit of a stretch

Yup, wettest night ever. We went to the pub afterwards and hung our coats at the end of the bar, within a couple of minutes there was a river running through the bar

It certainly was wet that night, another one in a series of games that seemed to be played in monsoons at the Vic around that period in time.

That night, I had just acquired a new waterproof coat, one of the best coats I ever had, from Mountain Equipment. I was a bit miffed that my coat was going to get soaked on its first outing, as I'd bought it to look good in, not keep the rain off  Anyway being brand new, and having a brand new membrane etc, the rain sliding off rather than soaking the coat, and kept me very dry, only problem was the rain was sliding off the coat onto my jeans, which did get a soaking. I can't imagine I went for a pint like I always did, after that one, it would've been straight home to dry off. One of the great nights though, like the Luton 4-3, up there in the top 5 I'd have thought.

you see so many dog walkers like that in the rain with dry tops and soaking trousers. get an unfashionable long one covering your legs to be below your wellies to keep dry like i do. yes i have been to the occasional match as well dressed like that.

Hugh the hammers goal against Luton was a corker….from behind the goal in the Town End the Luton Keeper looked like an electrocuted monkey in mid air.

Yes that game against Sheff Wed was a great game capped by that great goal.
I was more or less in line with the replay camera.
I could watch that goal over and over again, and often do!

Me and the 2 other lads I was with had to drive home in our undies.

The Luton game was called off when it was due to be played on a Sat.
I had driven down and the match was called off 30 mins or so before kick off.
Couldn't make the arranged fixture but listened to the commentary on the radio.

Yes, I was in the Causeway, normal sort of winter weather, nothing out of the ordinary, just the usual gloom, then the heavens opened and it rained cats and dogs from then until kick off. Around 1.30pm I said to my old man, I wouldn't be surprised if this is called off, and sometime between then and 2pm, word came in that it had been.

We ended up having a few pints with a Luton fan who had travelled up by himself, if memory serves me right we were in the old Bank next to the train station, it used to show Premier League games. We then went to the Causeway to get him some proper beer, he was battered, we tried but couldn't get him a taxi to the train station, there was no way he was going to be able to walk there, luckily a fella that we knew walked in for quick pint after work so he dropped him at the station for us
