The EU imposed tariffs on cars built outside the EU, the Japanese then opened plants in the U.K.to get round the tariffs. The majority were just assembly plants, the parts were shipped to the U.K. Tesla are now building a plant I believe in Hungary to get round the EU tariff rules, I can’t see car manufacturers rushing to the States to build plants.
Once the electorate in the Stares start to feel the rise in prices things might change but that won’t happen tomorrow.
I can see Trumps point of view, why import goods when the States can manufacture them creating jobs unfortunately they can’t compete with China etc, increase the tariffs China just increases the subsidies to their companies in China.
