Great idea why import goods that the States already manufactures, because they are cheaper, what Trump doesn’t realise some of the people who work in the manufacturing industry etc are the ones he wants to deport.
The U.K. has already experienced that since Brexit where the Care Industry, Hospitable Industry and Farmers etc complain they can’t find employees.
Markets have reacted badly including the ones in the States, the money people there won’t like that nor will the Americans having to pay higher prices for locally produced/manufactured goods.

The widespread tariffs won't last long, I.posing them is his opening gambit towards improved trade and political deals.
Unlike our lot, he's acting in line with his pre election promises.

we,d put a tariff on home produced goods to help the wider world economy.

I doubt the U.K. could put a tariff on many goods as we don’t produce many, the U.K. is a Service Industry based economy since all the industry disappeared in the 70s.

What did Trump expect, the 3 countries to lie back and take it up the ar** without any repercussions. No idea where Invercockaleaky is, sounds north of the border, I guess, tried googling even used DeepSeek nothing, can you pinpoint it on a map ?

I'm sure Trump takes advice from smarter people than himself on the economy and financial state of his country and people.
My money is on the US economy and standards of living rising significantly over his term in office.
EU, US, UK - which of these is likeliest to have the best growing economies over the next 4 years Jamie?

It’s a bluff….like over here he now has all those frothing Labour MP’s who slagged him off previously grovelling with their apologies even Mandy was made to touch his forelock…Trump knows they hate him ..but they say revenge is sweet.
Complete lack of character and courage…if just one had the nerve to stand by their guns they’d have got my respect, but they kissed the ring instead.Oh dear.

And there you go Mexico have agreed to base 10000 troops along the border with the USA with the tariffs being cancelled.
Trump speaking to Trudeau tonight so no doubt a deal will be made and their tariffs will be cancelled too.
Not so naive is he Jamie?
Should've asked Trump to negotiate Brexit for us, they'd be paying us £350m to leave and stay out and allowing us to set all their legislation.

Unfortunately the UK doesn't have the economic clout of the US, so bullying tactics wouldn't necessarily have worked with Brexit.

Pity we can’t change them every time we change the government at elections.

That's the joke, isn't it? The Civil Service were always supposed to be politically neutral, enacting tasks the elected government gave them. Now a lot of them are identity/race politics obsessed lefties who choose which government policies they will attend to. The ones they dont like are delayed and obfuscated. Although elected by no one, they wield a great deal of power. The Westminster Civil Service, once a highly respected organisation, is now a swamp that needs draining but it sure as hell wont happen under Labour or Tory governments. The country is welland truly up Shit Creek without a paddle.

The Don has already backtracked on his tariffs for Canada and Mexico, wasn’t even in force for a day, obviously was advised against it, as usual opens his mouth and just spouts s*ite. He caused world wide downturn in the global financial markets which probably lost some his *friends’ millions of dollars.

He's stopped the tariffs because he's got what he wanted from the threat of imposing them not because of any reaction from the financial markets. The Mexico ones were stopped before the US stick exchange opened, because they've agreed to help stop the illegal invaders (or as the UK calls them Asylum Seekers).

What they have said and what they will do is a different matter Snowy, I wouldn’t hold my breath on it. All it does is gives the Mexicans a bit of breathing space, no country is going to held to ransom by a baffloon, we had Johnson the yanks have Trump.
Like the French we give them millions to stop the boats but they just turn a blind eye.

So the Canadians have also agreed to strengthen border controls in exchange for a 30 day delay on the imposition tariffs. Trump will judge what the response is over the 30 days and if he's not happy he'll put the tariffs in place until the Canadians and Mexicans do what's agreed. Strong leadership on Trumps behalf imo, the buffoonery has been monopolised by our senior government figures who rely on slogans such as Smash the Gangs!!
He said, he's doing what he said he'd do in the US. Meanwhile He said but he's doing the exact opposite of what he said in the UK. Now I k ow you'll claim he's only been in power for 7 months and it's all the Tories fault, but wrecking the economy, punishing pensioners, diluting Brexit were not what he was mandated to do now is it?

What problem has Trump solved Snowy, the border between Mexico and the Stares is 1900 miles long, so how can a few additional troops stop people from entering the States.

The U.S. imports some 4 million barrels per day of Canadian oil, 70% of which is processed by refiners in the Midwest. It also imports over 450,000 bpd of Mexican oil, mainly for refiners concentrated around the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Tariffs on those imports mean higher costs for making finished fuels like gasoline, much of which is likely to be passed along to U.S. consumers.

Mexicos economy is in the sh** so didn’t really have a choice Canada can afford to gamble with Trumps threats. Wait till the tariffs start to hit the yanks in their pockets.

What’s Starmer got to do with it, your friends in the Conservative Party did nought, immigration was a miliion.

The country is welland truly up Shit Creek without a paddle.

my lad has a mate at football who works in the civil service and says exactly what you say. on top of that he is not allowed to comment on political issues unless he underlines what you have said about them. its a well paid job therefore it enough for him to bite his lip at work and not get involved with their wokeness.

You’d better organise a check up, haven’t you heard that The Cons and Labour are now called the Uni Party because they’re both useless….it’s only dinosaurs like you who think they’re different
Stick to dating in your ‘Winter Residence’ ….but in your case, it’s more like ‘ Carbon Dating’..

Dating why would I date at my age, winter residence a bit humid today, around 30c, pleasant enough though, nice going out for a stroll on the promenade and watching the sun go down whilst sitting on the beach drinking a cold beer.

While espousing your proud socialist opinions to anyone who'll listen.
Shouldn't you give your money away to the deserving poor and live out the rest of your days in a council flat on Clavering? That would certainly be more in keeping with your views,.

So what opinions do you have, are you one of the working class like the majority who thinks they are middle class ?
If I had enough I would give some of it away albeit I donate to a Cancer Charity every month. I am just an ordinary working class fella who worked in contracting non pensionable employment all my life saved a little bit just enough so I can enjoy my twilight years in the better climate now and again. Do I detect a bit of envy and jealousy of my lifestyle, you should try it instead of criticising me.
I was fortunate to able to save for a deposit for my own property leaving the council houses for people who weren’t so fortunate.

The class debate is now redundant in my opinion with these kind of rigid classifications no longer fit for pupose in the modern world so I dont label myself or anyone else according to class. I dont envy your life style, good luck to you but it does slightly wind me up when people boast about their "comfortable" life style in one breath, then share their socialist beliefs in the other. The epitome of champagne socialism.

Fits right in with the New Labour Party of champagne socialists. No doubt you've got real working class people to clean and look after the winter residence while you're not there. And I'll guess you don't pay them minimum wage, pension, etc too?

Donald challenges Keir to a gamevof chess. Donald says "You choose Keir black or white"?Blimey says Keir "I'll set up a commission and carry out a review to decide, it'll be the most wide reaching commission into chess colour optimisation in history. It'll cost millions but I'll offset that by stopping bus passes and free prescriptions for pensioners".
Eventually Keir gets back to Donald "the review has come back inconclusive and it's a very difficult choice, not one I want to make. So you choose Donald". "White" says Donald immediately.

Why shouldn’t a socialist have a comfortable life style and money,I worked 45 years plus and long hours to achieve my ‘comfortable life style’ no one give it to me on a plate nor was it a legacy from my parents. They lived in a council house, my Mother had 3 cleaning jobs but what they did was instil work ethics in me. When they passed all there left was a few hundreds pounds which I gave to my daughter. Opportunities are there for every one it’s what you make of life, remember it’s not a dress rehearsal, not boasting stating facts.

Where’s that Snowy, you have a vivid imagination, no bars of that name I know of here, I live a 15 walk from the beach, I prefer the beach, buy your drinks from the 7/11 then sit on the beach.
I remember the TV program Tenko but that was about women held prisoner by the Japanese.

What makes me a hypocrite, is it because I am in a position to live abroad now and again, you should try it some time Snowy before criticising people who do, is one not allowed to do that irrespective of their political beliefs in their twilight years ? Plenty of Brits do working class people holiday and live on the Costas, Tenerife, Cyprus Turkey etc.
Brilliant book The Ragged Trouser Philanthropist by Robert Tresseii, a book every one should read, tbh not has much changed today.

Ah, a Socialist has to live on the breadline, dress in sackcloth and ashes and never have any possessions or enjoy life. What a ridiculous statement. "Comfortable" for one person is anything but for another. Champagne socialism, do me a favour.

He is a windbag who will gradually get isolated both internally and externally .
America is America and nothing changes but a few of his own citizens and around the world will suffer.

And we've got a wet lettuce who doesn't inspire confidence in anything he does or says he'll do. And by the way Starmer has already harmed more than a few of his own citizens already.
