Pre-match interview, first comment.......Southend are a bigger club than us!

Really that's the attitude?--its barely true down the years--am sure their attendance is higher, and they skirted with the bottom half of the championship while we failed in the league one playoffs--but its hardly like playing Sheffield Wednesday or even Notts County.

Such a defeatist thing to say, by the literal sense yes you could say Oldham are bigger and maybe Southend and York are bigger...but we are all in the same general area size wise

Other optimistic gems.....he hopes come the new year we aren't any worse off in the league than we are now way to aim high Lennie....despite his age he's a modern manager....and then comes out with the 80s cliche that penalties are a lottery

And people will wonder why we do F all this season and it gets dressed up as success !

Sounds like putting out the post mortem result while the ‘deceased’ is still alive and away on holiday.
Southend are not bigger clubs than us…or we wouldn’t be playing them.

Lawrence is perfectly competent vs some of the other jokers we have but he clearly doesn't care or is particularly hungry to do well and why should he at that age and knowing he's back to his consulting gig next season

Its throughout the whole club, you would think there would have been some embarrassment about Tuesday, but Lawrence, Dodds and Feather interviews are all the same---we did 'ok', shame about the pens, Lawrene was even laughing about Madine's pen---If you dont give a fuck lennie why should anyone else---the acceptance of failure at this club is frightening--really needs a Neale Cooper or Cyril Knowles to inject some get up and go and stop the coasting along, picking up a wage and accepting achieving fuck all

He didn’t say they were a bigger club than us, he said they had a bigger fanbase, which they do, and which you agree with in your second sentence.

Their average crowd this season is just over 7,000, almost double ours, and higher than any of our average attendances for at least 70 years. Even when we were challenging to get into the Championship we were only averaging around 5,500.

I take the point that he doesn’t give tub thumping interviews, where he claims that we should win every game and that nothing else is good enough, but Sarll tried that and he made himself out to look a bit of a tit when it became obvious that he had nothing to back it up.

There has to be a happy medium though--why mention their 'bigger fan base' at all--they are hardly a massive club--and using Lennies logic most games for us should be a piece of piss given our bigger fanbase--but am sure it will only work one way.

What is rubbing me up the wrong way, especially after Tuesday is the absolute lack of ambition and get up and go---basically saying treading water for next 5-6 games is an achievement, no one remotely bothered about being knocked out of a cup at home to part timers---Lennie laughing about Madine missing a pen and basically saying fuck it its a lottery anyway

If this is the baseline how do we expect the players to raise their standards---Lennie is the sort of manager you'd get a league or 2 below where we are, essentially doing the job as a favor or a hobby---whole thing is so apathetic and going through the motions.
If the chairman, manager and senior players (feather) all obviously don't really care or are invested if we do well or just do 'ok'.....then guess what the best we will do is 'ok'

We are having the piss taken out of us by an organization clearly not pulling out all the stops to be the best they can be---and its annoying

I'm on calm mode.
The mini test of 9 pts from next 3 games is still a basic necessity.
Been on this Earth long enough to know that all cockneys talk shite.
I will give Lens the benefit of the doubt that he forgot to take his medication before that interview.

Biggest concern from me about his interview is that it sounds as if Charman will be starting ahead of Mancini.

We are on 29 points, we need at least 75 points to get in the playoffs.

So we need at least 46 more from our last 25 games. So 4 points from every 2 games will see us at 79 points and comfortably in the playoffs. Win at home, draw away. Simple as that.

An away game in front of a 6800 crowd, we're fooked

Imagine what it must've been like for Gateshead in September, and they don't even have many away fans.

Oh hold on a minute, they won 3-1, how?

I agree to a point, we do need increase our home attendances, and increase the volume of the home support to make the Vic intimidating again, having a bit of urgency and get-up-and-go in his interviews might help with that. But Lennie’s style seems to be calm competence (clashing with Sarll’s frantic incompetence), we’ve lost once in his 9 games in charge, so it seems to be improving us.

In our next 5 games, we are playing 3 of the top five, plus Yeovil in 10th who are 2 points ahead of us. That is a tough run of games. We are currently 3 points behind the playoffs, so if at the end of that run of 5 games we are still no more than 3 points off the playoffs, then we’re still in a good position, with 20 games left. The run of 5 games after that is against teams who are in 16th, 20th, 18th, 22nd and 21st. So that is where we should be realistically targeting a run of 5 wins, shooting us into the playoffs.

On the FA Trophy defeat, regardless of Tamworth being little part-time Tamworth, they are 4 points behind us with 2 games in hand, they have beaten two League One teams this season, so they are obviously no mugs. We made 8 changes, they made 3, so we were playing with a more of a second XI team against what was almost their full strength team. We still looked to be closing out a comfortable 1-0 win until we switched off in the final minutes. I was pissed off at the capitulation, but I would have been much more pissed off if we lost 2 points like that. It also demonstrates why some of those fringe players are fringe players, and not first team regulars.

thing is that he didn,t have to say it. its points that get promotion and not the size of home crowds and the numbers we take away. gives the impression that we are going to be up against it from the start and a near miracle if little old pools can salvage something out of the game. do clubs with gates just over 1,000 make a big thing about our gates before they come to the vic and win. we might get their gates anyway if we were stuck miles away from another team like they are.

And his last comment is that if Pools are at their best "We can beat anybody, including Southend." Standard pre-match stuff from managers at any level.

As for the rest of the games he mentioned -Yeovil (H), Gateshead (A), Oldham (H), Barnet (A), - Yep, if Pools take 6-8 points from those 4 games it won't be half bad. Some of the teams around us in the table will have a much easier set of Xmas/New Year fixtures.

For me the most annoying thing in that interview was a reference to the side he put out in the Trophy game " A lot of players got tired at the same because they haven't played."
Exactly - the squad players had done enough after 70-75 minutes, Pools were in front and looking comfortable. That was the time to bring on the likes of Mani and Feaths and see the game out. Lennie's game management from the touchline is ropey because he doesn't make enough use of substitutes.

thing is they are like most are different in every other job. players from the 20,s and 30,s always said those from 30/40 years later were. modern day players think they have put a real shift in but those from an earlier era would have a real laugh about that. the laugh is players even from the 80,s sound like their fathers and grandfathers who played the game at an earlier time where once they said its different nowadays.

Yep he loves charman because he runs a lot, really modern management that Len

An hour plus of charman with his head down, creating some chances with his running then fucking them up and shooting or shanking the ball out of play……one or two down and Mancini put on for last 20 expected to haul us out of it.

Next year when Mancini is gone and charman still around….and we are worse some people will wonder why and how that happened !

I thought this thread was about our dear departed transvestite Lawrence. He was a couple of decades ahead of his time, they're all at it now. I used to love the faces of the away supporters when he turned up in the Rink end..

Our lass knew him through work and would sometimes bump into him in Morrisons.
She was talking to him and this apparently respectable bloke told me he’d like to give him a good hiding…unfortunately for him she heard him.
She is from West View so ……..rakxe
