was in favour of it once but feel now as the old are in such a low asteem now it frightens me. would help to save the good old NHS by just shoddy treatment of anybody using it past a certain age as they are just a drain on it with a short future ahead of them anyway even with first class treatment.

All very Orwellian too, always thought that from the first.
One minor celeb creates a fuss because they want to die in this country and the paperwork is pulled out and there to be approved, must have been there all the time surely…?

From someone going through the mental turmoil of watching my mother waste away from advanced Alzheimer's (over 7 years since she was diagnosed), I wish there was something in place to help her legally. Unfortunately for this horrible disease assisted dying will not help as there is the need for the person to be mentally competent to make the decision.

I sit in tears listening to my mum, in her few lucid moments, asking me why she has to go on like this and that she is stopping us living our lives. It's hard to hear with no way of helping.

And before anyone comments on funding, we have had to sell my mum's home when she went into the first care home. Now the nursing home she needs is £1,700 a week and her capital is at an end we need to find somewhere for her with the £948 the government think is enough to provide the care needed.

At the end, they take your money off you at a monstrous rate.
Had the same trouble with my mother, she had Alzheimer’s too, but thankfully for her she didn’t last long once she eventually went in at the end…being at home for most of the time….
I dare say some folk with a terminal diagnosis will decide to end it to just to hang on to their money for their family’s sake .
Sad world.
