I moved away from Hartlepool 10 years ago and the changes in that time have been huge. I come "home"every 8-10 weeks or so to see family and friends and each time I cant help but notice how different things are becoming. Its nothing like the place I grew up in, of course places change in time, unfortunately not always for the better.

I think this is true of many places in the UK and I agree, the change is not always for the better.

TBH Thai people are very non judgmental, many races and creeds live in Thailand, difference is trying to stay long term legally. I have to report to immigration every 90 days, apply for a visa annually, if I leave and return I have to report to immigration within 24 hours or get fined. If fall foul of any immigration laws I am detained and deported asap, no lefty lawyers to defend you.
In the U.K. my partner gets a 6 month visa no reports required and unless she committed an offence she could stay forever.

That sounds a very lax practice to me by the Government if true.

True, apply for a U.K. Visitor Visa, provide a minimal amount of documentation, arrive in the U.K. go through immigration on your arrival this time at Teesside Airport no questions asked, the officer said enjoy your holiday etc end of, my partners 4th visa.

I suspect most people are wary and averse to change appearing to happen quickly to a settled structure in their life. This applies to people of all cultures, creeds and religions and is as old as time itself.
There are always people who will be racist, it depends though to what extent they take that inner belief to that matters in practical terms.
I believe race is not the main factor, but culture/religion, which inevitably changes over time as successive generations can’t avoid passive integration into the host society.

We have already had a thread in which prejudice was expressed towards Muslims. The Bunker Is quite an intolerant place to be sometimes.

what we have to remember is.... this town for many many years has had a very small minority of lets say other nationalities. To those not used to being in the environment of lets say anyone but a white english man, it can be an eye opener. The council have opened the doors to all those that London cannot house basically so we are seeing not just say Migrants who have legally came to the country but also just families from down south who have been moved up here or moved themselves. There is also a small Ukrainian population within the town for obvious reasons. They too have been scattered about cheaper housing locations up north. I know what you are saying Jamie. Towns changing and will continue to change - im not really bothered aslong as the crime doesnt go up. Hopefully the majority of them all work and are paying their taxes..... ill find my own way out HA HA HA !

possibly nowadays being racist or anti gay and trans is seen as worse or at least similar to being a murderer or a nonce. its quite a different matter to hating anyone with a different colour for no other reason than that. It was something you,d expect in the 70,s from the national front as there towns were not changed much my mass legal or illegal immigration. now most towns have changed not just in looks but how many feel about going out. know i,d hate to have a teenage daughter now and would never allow her out on their own at night. heard from others who do have em that its verbal more than physical abuse from our new friends they have to put up with but a group that does not know the meaning of the word NO.
