In between talking about a lap of appreciation after the game and almost forgetting Darcy's name Phillips was singing the praises of what a leader Featherstone is and how he hasnt missed a game or a training session........he's getting a new contract isnt he !

I have nowt against him, but if you play him you need to compensate a lot for what he doesnt do--and I dont think we have a good record of doing that

Yep, like Cooke doesn't do enough for the team especially when we haven't got the ball.

you cant play Featherstone and 2 in midfield---its either 5-3-2 or 4-3-3 with him sitting in.....which is ok if thats how you want to play but you are limiting yourself and your other midfielders both have to be prepared to run their balls off

I don't see him in the first eleven I do see him coming off the bench for 20 mins to slow the game down and keep the ball when leading in close games. We would be very foolish to not keep a player of that experience believe me. He could also be part trainer for the young lads etc.

Yes looks that way.
KP obviously has his head well and truly screwed on.. unlike some.
But try not to get too upset about this Arthur.
You know it will only give you a headache.
BTW have you cleaned out the donkey stable today?
Listen...you may not have played the game at the highest level like.
Represented your country 8 times.
Scored 246 goals in 580 appearances.
Or won the European Golden Boot https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Golden_Shoe
But at least you know how to shovel shit mate.
So stick to what you know about and what you do best eh?

Featherstone is a technically gifted player but he lacks certain qualities, he can't press, he's doesn't create much, he is slow, doesn't tackle or score many either. Personally if possible I'd keep him as back up on a player coaching role but I certainly wouldn't want to see him starting anymore. Like previously said, maybe he can come on to see games out at most. If he did go I wouldn't be particularly bothered but if he's kept on then surely just as back up.

Don't think he worth keeping to come on and protect a 1 goal lead.
Maybe 1 or 2.

Why not just use Cooke and Fevs freed up wages to bring in a couple of decent midfielders who bring more to the team.
Our "midfield" has been shocking for too many years with him at the heart of it. Keep doing the same things but expect a different outcome - madness as someone once said.

Trouble is LF, Dont think he really believes what he writes.

No matter what level anyone plays, It does not make them a good manager/coach etc.
And to believe it does says it all.

Forgot to mention we now have a super Chief Scout to bring in better talent for the current poor previous managers signings.

Pools had had a run of 4 points from 6 games (4 out of a possible 24) when Featherstone re-signed on a short-term contract at the beginning of October. But apparently it's all his fault that we've not stormed into the play-offs.

But it's all about opinions, right? As someone likes to say whenever he's talking bollocks.

It’s not really all about Featherstone and I’d like to see some role for him at the club, but that whole midfield needs refreshing.
We’ve been out fought outrun and found wanting and our weak spot in the team.
I’m tired of watching opposing reams rampage through our midfield and we are left wallowing in their wake, that’s the last bastion of the old order that needs to change.

Must admit I’‘m not a fan of testimonials in this day and age. I could see the relevance back in the day, but not something I’d turn up for.
Just my opinion.

Agree totally, it's not as if football is generally poorly paid nowadays or as if we owe him anything. I rarely do friendlies and I never do testimonials, can't even remember who our last player to have a testimonial was - Ritchie Humphries???

Not a fan either but some one like Featherstone who has been a loyal servant too Pools deserves one, he won’t have made enough money to retire on, not sure now many would turn up for a testimonial game no matter who the opposition was, I would be embarrassed if it was only a few hundred. Testimonials usually involve other organised events not just a footy game during the season organised by others ?

testimonial games for players nowadays are rarer than anything you can think of across football. so many are just interested in sideways moves to earn a few coppers more. no matter if you yourselves are not interested in a friendly game or the players attributes he deserves it.

hope he is as we need back up players and someone on the bench capable of slowing the game up if we are hanging on to a lead. this season has showed what happens when you have a small squad with little in reserve.

Last one was B Honour's v Newcastle I attended.
Wilf Mannian / George Hardwick at Ayresome Park.
Got zero intentions to make it 3.

After 50 odd seasons of being a Poolie this season is the only one I ain't attended a game.

To be fair Jamie, he’ll have to do what you or I would do, get another job.
He’s not going to retire in the conventional sense, so it’s best to prepare for the world outside football, they know it’s a limited career unless you go into coaching.
I could see the reason for it years ago, but not now.
Best have a ticket do at a suitable venue.

I think that would be better Snowy with invited ex Pools players and some one like Goffy doing the MC.
I believe nowadays young players are advised to get some form of qualifications/education not unless they make it to the big time at an early age.

When he resigned for Pools this season,
On 3 November 2023, Featherstone extended his contract until the end of the 2023–24 season; he was also granted a testimonial match to celebrate his ten seasons of service to the club.

Ritchie Humphries had a testimonial v Sunderland on August 2011.

Golden boy Ritchie was not of this world …..but a gift sent down from heaven by God himself, to do Pools a favour.
He’ll have got nowt out of me.

I never rated Humphries, nice fella but couldn't tackle, wasn’t creative, he was fortunate being supported by some decent players.

Humphries was outstanding when he first arrived, never forget him skipping past a defender on the Millhouse side leaving him for dead while giving the crowd a cheeky wave at the same time. Imo he, like Fev outstayed their time and became something of a burden as we needed someone tucking in to make up for their shortcomings as the seasons went by.

first game I remember is Pools v Norwich FA Cup 1949 but my most memorable moment was the recent Aldershot game when to my surprise they announced my Diamond Wedding (60yrs) over the tannoy at half time. (Thanks to Mark Simpson)

Well the great man was dire again today showing none of the qualities required for a successful midfield player at this level. Hope his testimonial is the last time he wears the shirt.

Good lad Arthur

Why not just use Cooke and Fevs freed up wages to bring in a couple of decent midfielders who bring more to the team.
Our "midfield" has been shocking for too many years with him at the heart of it. Keep doing the same things but expect a different outcome - madness as someone once said.

Spot on crazy isnt it how many more times do we need to see the midfield overun before the penny drops with some?
