Arrived early and had a delicious lamb pathia in Saji's - probably the best curry house in County Durham (Tyne & Wear my arse) and cheap too.

Yes. That's because England north of the Tees was adminstered by the Prince Bishop of Durham, a vassal of William who collected his own taxes. Both sides of the Tees were equally devastated after 1066 because of rebellions - Yorkshire by William himself in 1070 and Durham a decade later by his half-brother. Most of the population died of starvation so there wasn't a lot of produce to count anyway!

Last time I was in Southport there was a carry on about the locals wanting to be in Lancashire not Merseyside, they hate it with a vengeance.
