Just conceded a very poor goal defensively....de ja vu.

First 10 mins we looked good but Barnet got more and more into it.

Crawford having a good game so far, Mancini looking like someone who is a lotbetter at friendlys than real games so far....but very early

suspect Barent will be one of the better sides this year....Kanu, Coker and Brunt all look good for them

As I write nice football and good double save from Barnet keeper, Crawford again doing very well

Mancini needs to calm down, lucky not tobe booked and giving away free kicks in dangerous positions.

stuffing knocked out of us...not sure how the linesman could have seen that clearly to give it but Barnet set piece delivery causing us lots of problems.
Mani O doing his best to stem the tide, but only 1 side looks like scoring now.

Grey on for Donny Loan full back who looked ok.

It’s been poor. Two calamitous goals to concede, and the third is also fairly desperate stuff. A drop in quality but yet, we look every bit at home. The spark is missing, a ball carrier who can beat a few. Wreh and Umerah very static, the latter of which has done a lot of moaning but very little else. I’m sure there’s more to come from this Pools team but this is an inevitable start. Perennial losers, sinking to yet further lows. When will this change?

Yeh very disapponted with Wreh and Umerah
In the spirit of trying to be optimistic Crawford did well 1st half and Barnet will be one of the better sides.
Things also havent gone for us--this isnt a v Walsall sort of start but v sobering

Early days but all of those who’ve slagged Killip off over past few seasons may well be pining for him before too long. This new lad not exactly inspiring confidence…

Can't continually lose your best players and expect to rock up and do ok, just was never going to happen. Probobly the best thing for us this today might wake a few people up in the club. But we said that last season too.

Question is - is this on par with last season’s mugging on the opening day at Walsall?

Kanu tearing us a new arsehole now

Have to laugh at Grey, knocked off ball so easily and looks forlornly for a foul.

Serious lack off effort.
3 wins from Askeys first 13.
Results buisness.
Still 45 games left for improvement.

Hard to know what to make of that--we were a shambles after the dodgy second goal but 3-0 was a bit harsh, some obviousweaknesses there though......

Ratings

Dixon - 6, smart dist, but doesnt look any better on crosses than Killip
Pruti - 5 Poor distribution - not one of his better games
Mani O--8 MOM looks very good
Dodds 6--Not one of his better games, wont likely come up against many better players than Kanu though

Ferguson 5 -- Poor distribution and stupid booking
Seaman 6 did ok

Crawford 7 - Best of our midfielders did really well in 1st half
Mancini 6 - grew into it, will be better after a few games when he calms down
Cooke 5 - One good ball to Umerah aside didnt do much, painfully slow---wish he was as good as he thinks he is

Umerah 6 - Battled but not one of his best games
Wreh 4 - Awful

Subs

Grey--Boy in a mans game--way too weak
Hastie--idiot, took his goal well but then insisted on taking the pen--hope he gets fined--please let there be a club in Scotland who wants him

Overall I thought Barent were decent but non infallible--really shows we need more physicality---the idea people had that Murray woudl have been fine in this league is frightening.

Lot more work needed--Hopefully Raj backs Askey to do it

Weak on crosses still. Part of the reason imo is the centre of defence only Onariase is strong in the air. Whilst Dodds is a good fullback he is not and from what I know has not played in the centre of defence before coming to Pools. As for Pruti too hit and miss for me.

Was at the match. Pools played some nice one touch stuff at times but didnt move the ball quickly enough and lacked penetration. Barnet keeper made a double save in the first half but that was the only time we threatened in the first 45 minutes. Barnet moved the ball more quickly and had some genuine pace which troubled us all afternoon. They were able to get plenty of crosses into our box which usually caused us problems. This was in contrast to the rare Pools crosses which were generally over hit. Ref was poor and gave free kicks mainly in favour of the home side.
In the second half we finally started to have a go when we were three down. As far as I could tell we reverted to the long ball which caused Barnet far more problems than when we tried to play football. Umerah looked either unfit or injured dunno which. Cooke was very poor and wasted so many crosses. 3-2 felt like some kind of good result after being 3 down. Anyway, we go again on Saturday against the heed. Maybe we will be better when Mani plays after his suspension.

I've just got back home and your summing up tells the story Mr Ozzy except you let the officials off very lightly. They were astonishingly abominable. If their performance is what we have to look forward to, then I fear the worst. How on earth we are expected to show respect after performances like I witnessed today is beyond any capability I possess.

I thought the team were disjointed and didn't seem to have any sort of plan or shape. When we got back to 3-2 I expected all out attack with pace but got hoofball and overhit hoofball at that.
Askey has a lot of work to do with this squad. We desperately need another big central defender like as quick as he can get one.
Hastie took his goal well but I think he might get it in the neck for hogging the penalty, which he missed.

Wreh 4 Awful. Really, don't know what game you watched., He ran his socks off for 72 minutes and made some good off the ball moves to open the space. Was just a massive shame our so called midfield was to slow and didn't dare run with the ball. They rather pass the ball back to Dixson or Onairase, instead of running through the middle of the pack like their #8 Gorman, who never left the centre circle when they where defending.
Crawford, Mancini & Cooke didn't work, all to similar. Left gaps wide open and made it easy for them to run through us. Seaman was like a extra, who didn't know where he was playing.
Cooke played well when got off the left wing and came a bit more central.

That's the trouble with relying on what you see through a camera lens in comparison with actually being at a game. Anything the camera misses, you miss. And with a low budget streaming service, you miss a lot!

I watched the full 45+4 and 45+10 with my own eyes thank you. I walked from Canons Park station in the rain. I brought a coffee for £2.50 and a bottle of diet coke for £2.50. oh yeah I had a E ticket and saw the kids in the corner of the stand giving us jip and one of the kids had an Arsenal shirt on.
So don't tell me that I watched it on the computer. I also heard a few booing and calling for Askey's head already. You wouldn't get that on the camera.

The 500 + Poolie fans were great but there was one mouthy bounder who was just yelling abuse at the Pools players. I guess he must have a siht life and takes his anger out on footballers. Probs could do with some specialized help.

It sounded pretty dire on the radio. My feeling that the defence looked disjointed, with no connection to the midfield and the attack static. Have we moved on from last year? Over to you who where at the game for more clarity

The radio commentary’s usually do sound desperate, even Featherstone was needed apparently….must be a media thing.

Have you got a crush on Killip, you’ve raised the blokes name four times for God knows what.
Nobody ‘hated ‘ Killip, he just made people say ‘ Aw fuck, not again’ too many times.
How he lasted so long at Pools I have no idea, but slagging off our keeper on his first league match is absurd.

I could tell you were at the game from your comments. My post was in response to the 'Wreh 4 Awful' bit, that was part of a long post that got put up minutes after the game finished, by someone who obviously had watched on a screen. I was over-zealous with the cut and paste there, wasn't I? :? It was your reference to 'good off the ball moves' that prompted my own observation - that's just the sort of thing you don't always see watching on a computer or TV. Apologies for inadvertently giving offence.

I was at home listening on the radio, BTW. Will be at the Gateshead game on Tuesday.

did not go, watch or listen but was 3.2 flattering us or would 3 nil have been the fairer score. It was not the worst result by a long way other fancied clubs got yesterday.

true, but can he do anything about it especially bringing in replacements this early. you can have the coaching badges and experiance in the world but if players are poor they will remain poor how ever much both party,s try.
