Well its really starting now on the BBC with their hype about the womens world cup and the lionesses. They must be showing the competition live themselves. Just got over the tennis now and why cannot sport just be reported for the sake of games without all the extra stuff spouted to turn as many off than on.

I have no interest in it whatsoever…if people like it, fair enough, but it’s not for me.

The BBC have got to show they are politically correct, their footy webpage is full of it, you have to scroll down to read about the real footy.

Thinks its about the changing of times as much as attitudes. Once hyping stuff up became a turn off rather than a turn on but now once something is pushed hard many cannot do anything but get involved themselves. its back to a sheep society we seem to live in. the bbc know their stance is going to work for many on many subjects they bang on about.

BBC have long since abandoned the old mission statement "To Entertain and Inform". They are now hell bent on being an agency for changing the way we think. The BBC have decided that the women's version of the game should be more widely supported so are hyping it up to the skies. You wonder why this is.

Let’s be honest what sports do the BBC have left?
Extreme underwater ironing, Pro-Am Hamster Wrestling, Over 90’s Darts and Premiership Flower Arranging haven’t pulled the crowds in so they’ll have grab at anything floating by.

like them or not and i certainly don,t the bbc has done more to promote womens football than the fa have ever done. think their stance on it annoys football fans more than the rest of the public are concerned. if they banged on about some subject we had no interest in it would pass us all by like for me all the poncy cooking programmes you have to turn off from.

You tend to find the people who promote a whole raft of things tend not to actually turn up to watch it anyway.

From experience :shifty: the ladies do tend to harbour a grudge longer than the blokes.
Men go up like a rocket and then float down deflated to Earth …. the ladies simmer.

Yep, as you would expect, the comfy shoe syndrome is rife within the womens game. But hey, live and let live.

just go the whole hog and put a murial up at ends of the ground that clubs have done when developing their ground that shows faces of fans. they,ll never get it that there just is not the mass interest there no matter how its being pushed. why push something anyway if its that popular.

Stumbled upon brief highlights from German Women v Morocco on You Tube. Apart from the six goals, what I noticed was the German Women seem perfectly happy wearing white shorts despite the biological issue which caused the England women to refuse to wear white shorts. Cant help thinking gender politics is at play. I hope the Germans win the Womens World Cup cos if our women win it we'll never hear the bloody last of it.

I watched the Lionesses against Haiti which was pretty good. Our passing was good but lacked end product. Better than how Pools play. That’s controversial. I also watched the opener with New Zealand. I tried to watch Italy against Argentina hoping there might be some tasty tackles but couldn’t find the match on iPlayer or ITVX. I’m guessing all of the games are not being televised. I will watch the highlights this morning.

think there are millions across the country who will never watch a kick who will feel the same way. they all know whats going to happen and the lasses themselves will wonder what honour they,ll get in the next honours list after the win.

Haiti are rated 57th in the World ratings, hardly stunning form from England….
Saying it’s better than how Pools play is silly…they were playing to their standard against a team allegedly far inferior.
If they actually played Pools, reality would set in very quickly.

To be fair that's what most of the World think about the England men every World Cup. What is it now, 57 years of hurt?

We all know England have been perpetual also rans and the politicization of them has put a lot of people off. Have to be honest and say, I couldn't care less what the rest of the world think. As for the women, I dont have an issue with them as a team, its the fookin BBC and their social engineering agenda, I cant stand. I read somewhere in North Korea, you are forced to listen to propaganda, in the UK you are forced to pay to listen to it.

spot on saltburn. you could also add that the bbc are making something out of these lasses and the competition thats just not there. might actually have watched it if there was none of this hype and would judge it on what it ctually is and not what they want it to be.

Disagree, the Lionesses play nice football, nice crisp passing. Only the end product lacking a bit. Last season before Askey took over Pools were a foo*in shambles especially under Hartley. Yes the current Pools team would probably
Beat them because of physicality but I want to see attractive football and nice passing. Too early to judge at the moment

If you play nice against nice you get ‘nice’.
If that appeals to you, good luck.

you and others may get enjoyment out of it if we were allowed to accept it as what it is in the same way you,d expect a youth mens international to be. trying to attempt to put them on a level with mens international football does the lasses and their competition no favours whatsoever.

its harder to even do that at our level now. its only back in the pre premier league days where a league 1 or 2 footballer lived in a house similar to what most of us do and drove a car with more previous owners than the present day player has clubs.

It’s the image of Alf Ramsey at the end of the 66 final ordering his small back room team on the bench to remain seated and to show some dignity….then the press turning up at his semi with immaculate garden the next day to find him washing the car…and he really wasn’t interested as he had ‘jobs to do’. My old man found it hilarious, he said the reporters looked like puppy’s with smacked arses.
Players and managers had their feet on the ground, now they’re feted as Gods by the ever ravenous meeeeeja.

you can add fans to that as well. its like meeting royalty or a top film or pop star now to them if they ever met an international player. played against ray wilson in the mid 70,s after he packed up and he was just regarded in the game as another opponent even though most had a chat with him after like a normal bloke.

"les be friends"

When you first sniggered at that as a callow youth, did you imagine you'd be repeating that some 50(?)/60(?) years ago?

Has it aged well?

That Lauren James is some player and she knows where the onion bag is. Two goals and two assists and a third ruled offside by VAR.

Who were the opposition? I presume they were a top side.

China - last year's Women's Asian Cup champions. They beat Japan in the semis on penalties and South Korea in the final, so at their best they're a pretty decent side. Japan stuffed Spain 4-0 the other day
By any standards a 6-1 win is not to be sniffed at.
England played some delightful stuff: precise, perfectly weighted, incisive passes, excellent finishing and, just so it wasn't all "nice" some thunderous tackles from Millie Bright.
I suspect it was one of those days when everything just clicked into place (Pools 8 Grimsby0...or was it 1?) and there are no guarantees it will be repeated.

It was 8-1…and when Grimsby came out after half time and quickly scored to make it 4-1…some clown near me said..” ‘uhoh’ we’re gonna throw it away”..nowt changes.

I've been away for a little while, so this is from a week or so ago.
"les be friends"

When you first sniggered at that as a callow youth, did you imagine you'd be repeating that some 50(?)/60(?) years ago?

Has it aged well?

It was new at the time and at 14 it sounded clever…..nowt new under the sun.

"It was new at the time and at 14 it sounded clever..." Maybe yes, maybe no, but that wasn't the part I was questioning.
"...did you imagine you'd be repeating that some50(?)/60(?) years ago? (I should have written 60 years later.)"
"Has it aged well?"
Answer :"Nowt new under the sun." I'm not sure how that cliche answers the question.
I'm sure most of us said things and had thoughts at 14 that we wouldn't hold now.

So they were tha Asian Cup Champions? Ok so I guess it was the equivalent of England men beating Brazil 6-0. Righto, that explains why it was the headline story on BBC TV National News. No hype involved at all.
