Are Pools playing Middlesbro today? The Mail says they are but no mention of KO time and no mention on official site. Is it behind closed doors? Is it next Friday? Does anyone know? Thanks in advance. sctatchinghead

Cheers, mate. Isn't it a shame the Mail didnt mention the KO time? It has all been very low profile.

According to the Smoggy Gazette Boro will likely include a load of their Academy players. There'll be a better atmosphere for the Sunderland friendly at the Vic as it's only a few days before the season starts.

Yep, very early days for all concerned. Boro are playing York on Sat so will obviously involve a lot of players.

Umerah missing tonight which isn’t good news.
Heard a whisper Murray is off to Raith Rovers which could also explain his absence

Be surprsied if Umerah is still around---move back to Scotland for Murray may be best for all parties.

Apparently the trialist starting the first half is Anthony Mancini. Sounds like he has done really well so far according to BBC Tees commentary.

No Murray or Lacey at CB so looks a bit makeshift, definitely an area we need to strengthen with a couple more players.

2-1 final score. Early days, not reading too much into it etc but a positive start.

I wouldn't read to much into the absences either - Finney was missing too. Post-match interview with John Askey here https: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwbU2-E_8L8.

Towards the end he says Umerah, Finney and Lacey were all carrying little knocks and it wasn't worth risking them tonight. No mention of Murray though

He also said he thought Jordan Cook would be fit enough to start the next friendly!

The lad Mancini is French, 22 - been with Burnley's U-23 side and was with Accrington Stanley for the second half of last season but only got 2 starts.

Askey said in his tees interview that he was waiting to see what the situation is with Murray - sounded like he was on his way out and just waiting for things to be finalised.

Paterson still very much part of the squad and even Hastie was given some minutes. No sign or mention of Salah.

at least he got two starts in a league thats 2 above where pools will be playing next season. he might not be a league 1 player but could be good enough for non league.

that included 3000 of us which was a shock after all the talk of the interest in the club has gone after relegation. a few more ins and outs we might get a shock what the crowd will be in our first home game especially being gateshead and not some southern outfit you need to use google maps to find.

The crowd was actually.

5617 with 2331 from boro.

Did not expect that hopefully the Sunderland game will top 6k.

Had a listen to that and Askey talks about wanting 3 or 4 more in to make sure there's proper squad cover in midfield and at right back. It all feels a million miles away from last summer's shambles of a pre-season. In fact, I'd go as far as to say 'All signs point to a top half finish...'

i,m slowly coming round to expecting better than my previous wish of finishing right in the middle of the league. its all history and guess work now, but it would be interesting what would have happened if askey had replaced lee the day after his sacking. Certainly do not think gateshead would be our first visitors of the season for sure or watching the crap of last season either.

I though Pools first half performance was encouraging with excellent performances across the team, if we had kept the same team for 90 mins the score would have been much greater than 2-1.
You can only play against what is put in front of you but sometimes people seem to complain for the sake of complaining which I find to be the case of Billinghampoolie.
To say that we were just playing a team of kids is totally untrue as at least 7 possibly 8 of Boro’s team are over 20yrs old and have 1st team experience playing over 1000 pro games between them.
Roberts 216 games
Fry 209 games
McNair 240 games
Hackney 70 games
Forss 147 games
McGree 167 games
Finch only 17 but already played 3 1st team games for Boro
Bilongo 40 games

Why not just accept that although it was only a friendly, we played well and for the 1st time in over a year looked a really good well organised team.

We looked a really good organised team at times last season. So its not 1st time in over a year, we battered Grimsby. Let's just see how we do against someone's first eleven before we start getting excited. We are still way short of what we need. It's was a friendly against a team who put out how many first teamers?. If you think I'm complaining for complaining sake you could be right but you have to admit if you don't complain after a relegation a chairman who now wants to ban free speech then you would never complain. Maybe we should all shut up and let one man carry on the way he is going, because he is doing a great job at messing things up for a second time.

Positives to take from that in terms of the individual performances.

Defence looks terrifying on paper. Askey said himself there’s 4 or so players still needed and he’s not wrong.

Bids are in for Umerah, the auction has started. So unless Grey comes into his own, we might need another reputable forward at this level. It’s nice to have a saleable asset though, as opposed to losing for free which has been our norm for many years.

All in, a good workout & far better progress as far as pre-season is concerned versus that god-awful, season defining pre season of last year.

Anybody heard anymore on takeover?

Everybody knows not to take the results of pre-season games seriously all managers tell you it’s just to build up fitness but it’s still nice to win.
Pity about the size of the attendence and the win against a reasonable turn out of an expierenced Boro team. This must have really disappointed Billipooli having to struggle to find something to complain about.

Bruce Rioch old school manager.
Lets hope he can turn pools fortunes around as Rioch did for Boro in 86.
Then went on to make a good career.
What will be will be tho.
Totally out of bunkerites hands whatever different opinuons are.

Like I have said many times Pools are a lot bigger than even our own fans think. Once again another excellent crowd on the back of a terrible season. I have ambition for us I believe with a good owner, money spent on a team or even ground this club can take off. Maybe moaning is down to the club having zero ambition like a lot of our fans seem to have, I'm not in the oh it's Pools we have to be shit brigade. The result was a win it's always nice to win but come on if we lost to Spennymoor it be said oh its just a friendly and last night's the same, we are still miles off a good team, that defence will struggle to keep clean sheets, still got a few weeks for it to change.

I think you're in danger of having an argument yourself here. Accusing fellow Poolies of having zero ambition is a bit off - not sure it amounts to anything more than that we're not all burning up with resentment at Raj Singh the way you are.

I don't agree with your assessment that "we are still miles off a good team" for the National League - but that's not an argument anyone can win till we're a month or so into the new season. I think Askey and Pools are on the right track to put in a serious challenge for promotion. If that helps to bring in a new owner with money rather than chancers without a pot to piss in like Monkey Hangers and Coxberg, all well and good.

Askey is no fool, says we need at leasdt another 3-4 and to me thats a conservative estimate--hopefully the ones who are going go, so we can get a proper view of where we are
