Hibs v Pools in Portugal live on YouTube

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

I'll probably have a bit of a look this morning out of curiosity. It's so early in pre-season they may as well be playing beach football for all the insight it'll give into what the new players or Paul Hartley are about

No idea looking at the venue how they could have made it behind closed doors, it’s like playing on the Rec.

Not on the OS it wasn't

"Following a training camp in Portugal and a behind closed doors fixture against Hibernian FC, "

https://www.hartlepoolunited.co.uk/news ... -schedule/

Not blaming Hibs, just another great example of our cutting edge OS!

there is levels apart which i wasnt expecting even with our make shift sort of team atm - Hibs are battering us. They have some really good players and their press is as good as ive seen - Lee Johnson will take this team far, especially with Aiden Mcgeady joining up.

wonder who the random trialist is ?

Not really a surprise with Mark Shelton standing in for a central attacker.

It's a warm up game, today's side may only bear a passing resemblance to the team that lines up against Walsall.

Hibs should score a bagful in the second half with a fresh 11 on and Pools only having a handful of subs.

I think they are playing with more players than us.

they look as if they started training a couple of weeks before pools, but suppose it was our lack of numbers that didn,t help at the start.

They started pre season before pools as the challenge cup starts quite early in Scotland. The trialist will just be cook I'd imagine. The team news and text coverage is on pools twitter account. Hibs have a good squad and we currently have no strikers there so was always going to be tough.

Difference is Hibs very competitive treating it like a league game Pools treating it as a friendly, not flying into tackles like Hibs are.

I wouldn't read anything into that. The squad is so small at the minute that Pools can't afford injuries. Crawford hobbling off is bad enough.

The fitness level showed - the hunger and desire showed - im sure PH will have the lads playing like that by the time July 30th comes.
the scottish banter on the live feed chat made out that we are a sunday league team and spent more time on the floor - we need that bite they had. not taking anything away from that as we played a bare boned ring rusty team - we did well to hold our own to just 2 goals scored- thought the 2 CB did really well and if they play like that in our league we wont have too many issues - still think we missing a CB with pace and experience.
lots of negatives to take if you wanted to be fickle and look at it anything but a leg excersise for the lads - Hibs are always that team in scotland who think they should be winning the league year after year - their fans had hard ons over beating our B team.
we move on with hopefully more through the door come next week.

Did Neill Byrne get on for a few minutes right at the end? He was named as a sub but hardly used, if at all. Strange when it was so hot that a couple of players (Sterry and Ferguson) went off for a breather then came back on again.

Signing 2 new centre backs suggests Byrne might be among those deemed surplus to requirements.

It was a friendly of a friendly….. given the level they’re at above us with an established team as opposed to our blind date team, I think 2-0 a creditable score.
Some folk do take these matches too seriously at this stage, a case of champagne expectation and lemonade reality.

I'd be very surprised. Byrne was good last year.

We were truly awful all of the last pre season and I was convinced we were in for a really poor season but come first day DC had them well organised and completely committed.

Plenty of time and as it is a big rebuilding exercise, I wouldn’t be surprised if we aren’t great until (hopefully) we start to play games that matter.

A bit like men v boys especially with no effective forward line to speak of. I was fairly impressed by Murray and Lacey who seemed a tighter unit than last year. Niang looked useful and seems to like a tackle. I hope we will soon sign some strikers and take it from there.

Was quite comical really, one spoke like an Old Etonian, while the other side of the double act sounded like Rab C Nesbitt on cheap screen wash….. subtitles needed.

these games are glorified training sessions in preparation for the season ahead. as usual with fans if you hammer everyone pre season then promotion is guarenteed but the opposite if the team dare lose em.

Hubs beat Burton Albion 4-2, I can’t comment about the game but it’s a decent result for them.
