Relegated Watford have appointed former Forest Green Rovers boss Rob Edwards as their new manager from the end of the current season.

The confirmation follows Edwards' departure from Rovers, the club he has just led to the League Two title.

Forest Green had earlier said negotiations between Watford and Edwards took place "behind our backs".

Current Watford boss Roy Hodgson is due to leave the Hornets at the end of the current campaign.

Forest Green's owner Dale Vince told BBC Sport: "It takes a bit of the shine off winning promotion. If there's any karma in football they'll languish in the Championship and we'll meet them there in a few years' time."

"[Edwards] said he'd been advised by Watford and his agent to keep it a secret from Forest Green which I think is pretty poor from them. It's poor from Rob and he knows it.

"I thought I knew him better as a person."

It’s never the leaving that gets you, it’s the manner of the leaving.
At our level if we have a successful manager we all accept those predatory wolves are gonna come sniffing and whisk them away, it’s par for the course at this level.
What gets to you is when someone you have faith in organises their departure behind your back instead of being open about leaving, which is something we openly accept can happen.
Instead of parting company on good terms, you end up seeing a different, grubbier side to their character and it stings.
The thing is it’s so unnecessary, as we do understand we can lose a good manager, so what’s gained leaving in this underhand way.

FGR will really struggle next season having almost blown it this season. Mind you Edwards might be unemployed by the end of August given Watford's track record. We are lucky to have someone with the patience of Raj!

edwards will be the bookies favourite for the first sacking of next season. if he lasts to chrismas it will be a big success story for watford.

`The scenario;

Edwards to Vince - I'm just popping along to Watford as they have a Manager's
vacancy
Vince to Edwards - If you don't get it you are not welcomed back here

You can realise why employees do not tend to speak with their present employer as you might not get the new job you are after.

I like to think it’s different in football, you aren’t just letting down the boss but thousands of fans, it’s a bit different from moving from servicing boilers to servicing boilers for someone else, the passion isn’t there.

Hope you've got your house on it. The bookies are giving odds for 40-odd candidates and he's not one of them

Nine managers in four years, I’d certainly hesitate flying with that airline….. he’s joining a club one division higher than the one he got promoted to.

To contradict myself, I think it’s a good move if they give him time, celebrity managers are just a complete drain, but going by their track record it doesn’t give you confidence.

True Mr A …you old cynic.
When I heard of Man City’s signing he was quoted as being on £500,000. a month. I thought I’d sign, get a cotton bud up my nose after a few weeks and retire end of season on £24 million……. who needs football. :animals-dogrun:

when normal people get the sack its usually because they are shit at the job. when actors, singers and musicians do not get work its because they are poor or there is someone better out there. only in football is it where you can become rich for failure. problem is that failure at one club could be seen as success at another. doubt dyche would have got the boot from burnley if they were just a place below man.ure in the league.

How Watford keep attracting new managers so quickly is bizarre, the pay off when you get sacked must be more than decent. :-o
