It is a civil case not a criminal case so there is not even the threat of jail.

On top of that 90% of civil cases are settled out of court. He doesn't even have to attend.

Some times, I look at cases like this in a tired but sharply cynical way and think everyone involved has some degree of involvement.

First of all the "12 million" is a figure plucked out of the air by the Daily Telegraph.
Second, whatever the figure is it certainly won't be going into the woman's purse, as the bulk of it will be going to lawyers.
Thirdly, what is loosely termed as a substantial amount is allocated to the woman's charity which she set up to fund the victims of sexual abuse.
And fourthly, no one knows who will be funding the settlement as it doesn't appear to be coming from Andy's arse pocket.
