Looking in the Sunday papers at the league tables and was shocked at the size of the attendances at Forest Green and Harrogate of approx 13-1400.
For a club running as a business surely they can’t be viable with that level of support and in my eyes are little more than boys toys run by people who obviously can afford to splash the cash. I can see the point of wealthy investors investing in big clubs, especially those with a large fan base and tradition, but to do the same thing with clubs from the back woods and embarrassingly small crowds to match it’s a joke.
I don’t deny there were times in the long past when we had similar crowds, but we showed what happens on the pitch when you’re run on a shoestring as we apparently were then..... we struggled.
Even then though, if we were top we’d getting more than 1300 in the ground.

you can put salford and league 1 fleetwood on that list. one thing about it is that those who plough the money into these clubs are localish people who from their side feel they are putting something back to the area. its when they either get bored or die is where the fat will hit the rushden and diamonds fan. think we,d all fancy some north east guy throwing money at pools. it certainly would be appreciated more in the area than it has been in these new age clubs.

I've often pondered why people do it, but when I watched a documentary on Gretna recently it all made sense.

We were never Ken Hodcroft's Pools, but Gretna were always Brook Milleson's Gretna. It was never George Reynolds' Darlington, but it was always Max Griggs' Rushden and Diamonds.

If you can get a local sugar daddy all well and good, but like Accrington says if the go for whatever reason, unless you’ve built up a viable club structure and fan base it’ll soon collapse into the gutter.
