Is this going to be a thing of the past provided by the club now Simmo has gone? Can hardly see it costing that much to set-up but will prove more essential than ever with low crowds expected in the coming season. Is this new kid Alex going to take over doing it?

Can we not just make a just-giving campaign to get Mark back? :-D

Wasn’t there a lot of commentaries since we came to this league just BBC Tees? I’d assume they might just steal their commentary and not bother providing their own.

Cant see anyone at the club capable/interested in linking the bbc commentary onto their website for no profit.

I could never stream bbc commentary anyways using a desktop always getting a broadcasting rights message. Hope something is sorted but fear it wont be.

I too preferred the bbc coverage much better commentators with the likes of Eddie Kyle on hand giving honest opinions unlike Simpson who was too close to the players and regularly had with him a player not in the team who obviously could not criticise his mates.
I was however glad of the coverage when out of the area or country

I really enjoyed Simmo's broadcasts of the game and will miss them for both his commentary and being able to listen to a game when not there.

There were times when Mark Simpson was too biased but in my view he developed into a top class broadcaster. During recent years his commentary became much more even handed. I think people underestimate how much of a tough job it actually is.

thought he was biased but bloody good. if a pools commentator isn,t going to be biased towards their club no one else will be. always remember last season listening to radio lancashire on my way home. some guy gave a summery of the chorley game i had seen. you,d have thought they were all over us all the game which others who went know that was not the case.

When we are at home I always enjoy listening to Eddie Kyle on the way to the ground and his views of the game on the way home. As with football I don’t always agree with some of his views but he is always constructive and not afraid to criticise individuals.
This is of course just my preference everybody have their own likes and dislikes and of course every body doesn’t get DAB on BBC Tees

yes Eddie Kyle is a decent wingman but its a very different task to having to run the whole commentary from build y right through the game and give a good audio description of proceedings.

I still believe the BBC commentators are more professional after all it’s their full time occupation.

More professional? I commentated on over 800 games! Haha!

You hate the podcast and my commentary is rubbish. What did I do to offend you? Haha!

think you could get a shock there. if the club advertised for a volunteer to do the job i imagine there would be loads of applicants to do it. whether they would be any good is another matter.and being a co commentator is even harder than being the main one.

Are we a professional club or are we semi-professional club now?

I guess the club wants to be run Professionally on the pitch and a volunteer capacity off the pitch. 1000s people applying for a volunteer job at pools and a free season ticket. It will take a few months just to shift through the applications.

Could someone do a Zoom type commentary but hiding up in one of the floodlights?
All unofficial like.

I can picture it now with Simmo and Chris Kamara up in the floodlights giving the live commentary with BT marksmen taking pot shots at them!!!

Where does this word hate come from all I did was give my opinion. I don’t know Mark and he is obviously a very well liked bloke but 800 games or not I still don’t rate his commentaries. Well I don’t think the BBC will be knocking on his door.
P.S. I’ll still be listening when out of the area.

I always enjoyed Mark Simpson’s commentary. Was like listening to a fan commentate sometimes but that’s what I liked about it. It was our own site so bound to be biased. The excitement in his voice any time we had a shot was great. Listened to the Great Escape highlights a few times and he was brilliant for that game.

I also rate BBC Tees coverage of Pools.
Eddie Kyle class tells it how it is unlike Maddo who just says what he has to say to protect his own job.

Ivan Ash was brilliant.
Remember in one of his latter commentaries praising a player who made a good pass only to be told by Nick McLauchlin that he was subbed 10 minutes beforehand.

The thing with Simmo is that he brought genuine passion (along with pies) to the commentary box and with 800 games of experience he is as good as anyone I've ever come across doing that job. I've criticised him in the past for being too Lord Haw Haw but obviously that was under instructions from Ken Jong Il.

I would like Simmo to read my posts nowhere have I said I thought his commentaries were rubbish or I hated his podcasts. I just gave my opinions and which media I preferred listening too.Whilst I’m sorry to see him lose his job I don’t think the BBC will be knocking on his door and I do wish him well in finding employment if he hasn’t already done so as he is obviously I very well liked and popular bloke.

I always enjoyed the slightly biased commentary from Mark. The match highlights that appeared later didn't always live up to the excitement of the commentary. Mark will be sadly missed this season - just listen to the interviews with the 5 new arrivals yesterday!

Hold on...are we moaning here, that a Pools commentator, someone that was employed by the club for the long term, a fan, was biased towards us? Of course they would be slightly one sided, give your head a quick wobble. I thought Simmos commentary was fantastic, and it’ll be greatly missed this season, though I’m willing to give Alex the shot at it he deserves, if he does it, as everything he is doing so far seems to be pretty damn good. He’s a young lad with an exciting future.

I'm missing Simmo right now ... I want biased commentry, I want someone shouting, "what happened there?", I loved every minute of Mark's commentaries and was gutted when Pools dropped him to the bench.

Bring him back!

Try listening to some of the other clubs’ commentary, Simmo is comfortably a fence sitter compared to some of them.

Why not have a Sky sports type Saturday afternoon TV streamed programme with the likes of Simmo (doing a Sir Jeff)with ex players and personalities in the studio commenting on the live game with a build up, loads of match time banter and post match analysis.
I for one would be happy to pay a few quid for it.
OR does BT/NL have the rights on this kind of thing?

Great idea Blue. I'd pay for that especially if I knew a decent wedge was going to the club. Always enjoyed Mark s commentaries. Gave me a strange feeling of being at the match with a mate who'd had a few too many before the game.

Its great to hear that Gateshead have taken the advice of the Bunker and are live streaming the friendly for about £5.
