Have I heard right, that this tournament will feature 48 teams? Why?

Greed is the simple answer.

UEFA have already completely ruined the Euro's with last tournament being almost impossible to not qualify for then the expansion of the tournament being to the detriment of it's quality.

I think Qatar 2022 would have been 48 teams but with it now starting in November the the top clubs in Europe would not allow the extra time required for a longer World Cup.

I think USA/Canada/Mexico will be great for those fans travelling with small budgets though seen as they have confined the tournament into such a small area.

I assume without it it couldn't have been won by USA/Canada/Mexico. Wouldn't have been fair on the other CONCACAF nations if all 3 got a free bye into the tournament.

It’ll be that easy to qualify we could enter a b team. Or a team from the Sunday league.

It's true. Infantino is really Ally McCoist with a baldie wig.

Multiple reasons for this I suspect....

1) Infantino has more chance of being reelected because he can say to a lot of the smaller nations, "Look, I've made it more likely that you'll qualify for the finals!"

2) More games = more revenue

3) Less chance of major nations (ie those likely to pay most for rights) missing out. Italy, US, Netherlands all missed out this time - I expect that the price for broadcast rights in those places went through the floor. Can't imagine that Panama paid even 25% of what the US would have paid had they qualified.....

I'm not sure how many Euro teams will qualify, I suspect a higher proportion of the newer places will be going to the other confederations - esp. Africa and Asia. To be fair over the years they've been rather short changed on places, but Europe and South America don't want to lose their spots - this is an easier way for FIFA to get round it.

Played by Tony Slattery? I wonder what happened to him, I found him really funny.

Yes Tony Slattery......was ill and his appearances suffered.

I worked at Camerons at the time and went to the launch of the product.......The Canadians know how to run an advertising campaign.
Shame the product failed..................(fizzy piss)
