I find it quite remarkable that people seem surprised that a guy who has spied (on his own country of birth) has been brutally 'removed', we live in a country who in many mediums boast about the fact we are at the pinnacle of the World spy network and lampoon the fact in film's such as the Bond franchise, Kingsman, Jonny English etc which all portray people being violently murdered for their parts in it all.
This a 'spy' who hadn't even the common sense to hide his true identity, therefore putting his own family in danger as well as that of innocent members of the British public.
What surprises me also is the assumption that it's obviously the Ruskies who dunnit, I mean it's not as if another nation would do it to promote bad relations between ourselves and another nation is it?

So to recap the Russians did it and everything that happens in Jonny English is real?

If it can be proved the Russians were responsible surely that's an act of war? Thankfully one we can't afford to have and I suspect any repercussions would be scoffed at by the Russians as per usual.

I don't find it remarkable, and I'm sure many sensible ordinary people don't either. It probably happens more often than is reported, however this bloke and his daughter are Russians, therefore another great excuse to stir up anti Russian sentiment and nudge us further towards a war.

I find it funny that the perception of Russia is that is full of spies, maybe it is, but I also think there are probably as many spies in this country now, as they were in Russia and East Germany at the peak of Communism.

If Russia wanted him dead wouldn’t they just hire a hitman or take him out themselves in a less conspicuous method?

As soon as I opened this thread, I knew that if Horden posted, his bullshit would be along these lines. So this has only been reported to stir up hatred of Russia and convince us poor drones we should attack them. Even for you that's fucking barmy Ronnie. stpid

I sort of admire he little of a fuck the Russians give no matter how hap hazzard or obvious it is they just say ‘nah it wasn’t us like’ then do the line about the the wider conspiracy against Russia that people like Mr Horden and George Galloway actually buy

I suppose this wider conspiracy travelled to Russia six years ago to kill his wife in ‘car crash’ her death certificate says she died of a form of cancer and last year to kill his son who also died in a ‘car crash’ but people close to his say he died of liver failure when he was seemingly fit and well. That pesky West always blaming the Russians  I am sure the news in Russia right now is reporting him and his daughter are in a critical condition after being in a car crash in the UK. That family should stay off the roads they gave some terrible luck.

Fuck all to admire. They're so dumb that they can't just quietly dispose of someone, they have to consult some dog eared old Bond scripts to follow to do it in as dramatic a way as possible. Probably as a well publicised incentive to other ex employees.

I obviously don’t admire them needlessly endangering life surely they could just send over a hit man to professionally and quietly take him out they have obviously got into his property to poison him it’s just how brazen they are about it all.

I disagree. They could do it quietly and efficiently if they wanted to, but as you say, they probably wanted maximum publicity for this. If they didn't then I would put a fook up like this as more the work of the biggest bumblers in the world, the CIA.

Whoever was responsible , it was probably intended to get maximum exposure , for whatever means.

Living in Moscow, it has been hard to get my head around just how ultra-nationalistic a lot of ordinary people are. Sure, there is a lot of jokes made about the government and the standard of living - they can laugh at themselves. When it comes to spying or anything that is seen as threatening Russia? Don't go there. A good friend of mine tutors a rich businessman (not quite oligarch-level but not a million miles away) in English. The fella is a massive Anglophile but was positively ecstatic at what happened last week to the spy. He claimed that it was 'justice', and that anyone who threatened his family or put his nation at risk deserved to go this way. Gives an insight into the mentality.

That would be carnage, the Russians are seriously hard b*stards. No wonder, the weather we had the other week, is a 48 week a year thing for them.

Seriously though, I'm looking forward to the World Cup, and for a minute the other day, thought about going, but it seems far too complicated in relation to organisation at this late stage.

Despite some in the west wanting it to be a flop, I think it will be a great success. I cant see there being any major trouble. The Russians won't want anything to spoil their day in the sun, and i wouldnt personally want to go up against their police never mind hooligans.

Spot on. Anything that makes Putin look bad in his own country will definitely not be tolerated. I have tickets for two games, both at Luzhniki stadium in Moscow. The Russians have done a good job opening the country up for visiting fans. For example, your match ticket acts as your visa and all train journeys are free with your ticket too.

I hope you have a great time, I think you will. Was looking at the FIFA website the other day. The distances between the venues seem huge. The ticket prices seemed reasonable as well, unless I was reading it incorrectly, looked around £30 for group games. Would love to go , more for the culture and train journeys than the football.
