Was down there last night, first time in ages, to collect some tickets for upcoming away game. Went onto platform , that now has ticket barriers, but there were 2 gadgies in hi viz coats, stood beside them , I'm thinking they either don't work, or the public are too thick or cant be trusted to not to jump over them without paying.

One of the gadgies saw me approach the ticket machine ( I noticed it was a new machine , looking much more modern than the previous one they had ) and said to me that I had to use the ticket office as the machine was on the blink.

I turned around and headed for the ticket office , noticing a brand new coffee machine on the way , and wondering why it had tape around it , as though it was a murder scene.

Got to the ticket office and got my tickets , off a lad working all on his own, who looked as though he had found a penny and then lost a pound. I asked him what was wrong with the coffee machine, he replied that it had only been in 2 weeks when someone had prised it open and stolen the cash box.

What a fookin country , or should I say what a fookin part of the country :angry-screaming:

In the good old days of steam the train driver could have provided the hot water!

To be fair, the last time I saw Hartlepool station, hiring it out to Albanian goat breediers as a dung recycling centre would have qualified it as new improved.

I use the train daily, it's been fine since the barriers were installed. They have to be manned to let disabled people through and for people who use travelcards that don't go through the machines.

At busy times they also have another person on the platform selling tickets to help out the guy on the desk. I think the service they provide is great.

Worked once for me, luckily I don't have to pay for tickets now so never had to use it.

All we need now is some improved services and trains instead of those shitty pacer trains.

The manager of Northern Rail told me , we were getting Manchester's old rolling stock around 2019 , when Manchester get their new trains.

My heart bleeds !!

There was a report on TV about new trains in the Midlands where the local commuters were glad to see the back of the 'old' 19 year old trains they had to put up with.
I reckon on the pacers the only thing holding the bodies together is the paint of each new owner who comes along, the metal must be long gone. Ironically I drove past the old Lillyhall bus plant near Workington where they were built a couple weeks go, I could have dropped a request in to take them back, but it was long closed .

2019 is correct. We get the same trains as the Leeds/Manchester routes get, which are the same kind of stock as Trans-Pennine Express are now. They are also shite, just slightly less shite.

The worst thing is that only around 70% of those trains are currently in active service, they just won't send any up here.

The old one used to run out of tickets from time to time, but I can't recall the new touch screen one ever having worked when I have gone to collect tickets.

.......Maybe it's West Ham's old ticket dispensing machine.

Is it the replacement for the Pacers?

We used to call the DMUs before the Pacers "Bog Carts"

To be fair, the DMU's were a sight better than the cheap pacers that replaced them.....especially the seating.

Great idea to install a coffee machine wasn't it? bet the people who run the Trainstop are overjoyed, though they don't help themselves with their opening hours.

Their coffee is instant shite. If they spent some of their captive audience profits on updating their equipment to include a proper coffee machine then people might use it.

I also object to their use of polystyrene cups.

Noticed today that they have painted all of the metalwork on the inside of one of their pacers fluorescent colours in an effort for them not to seem so old. Now they just look like 30 year old trains with fluorescent metalwork.
