See we have not managed to pick anyone up from the "Big 3" North East clubs again this close season.

New managers always bang on about getting around the big clubs in the region but very little seems to come good from this chatter.

Also Craig Harrison the born winner who hates losing has sharp been brought down a peg or two. Happy with "successful" defeats.

Not a dig just an observation.

We shouldn't be relying on cast offs from these clubs though, I like the way Harrison is going about his business at the minute. In his post match interviews he's not exactly going to kick off or start slagging the players off during pre-season friendlies is he?

I imagine if he identifies we are struggling in certain areas then he will go to the loan system. As far as I know there are no loan windows in this league so we can bring them in anytime we want.

We have a fairly big squad too so see no reasons why we need loanees at this point.

He's got a point, we also didn't even bid for Lukaku, Morata or Lacazette, even though we were short of goals last year and crying out for a striker.

But typical Pools, free transfers again. No ambition.

Point taken with the interviews JMac. I was thinking along the lines of Harrison wanting local lads as they understand the passion of the area and what it means to the fans.

Ryan Donaldson, Louis Laing, Conor Newton, Blair Adams are all from the North east, that's half of who Harrison has brought in who you would assume understands the "passion" of the area.

Do they really?

Does 'passion' actually make a difference? Sometimes local lads are in more of a comfort zone living at home and mixing with mates. We just want good players I'm not bothered where they come from.

I hate the word passion ever since it was associated with the welsh team last year. I was making a point that he has brought in local lads but realistically it doesn't make any difference.

Agree again J Mac. But all of those players have made there way to pools via other clubs. Just thought we would have seen a bit more in the way of local players still attached to the "Big 3" coming down with something to prove. You know a Jackson , Burgess or the likes.

The new additions have all brought a freshness that has been sorely needed.

Sunderland and Boro have new managers, i'd expect that they would want to get to know their full squad first before they decide who will go out on loan. If we get loan players from them, it probably wont be until a couple of weeks into the season.

Any good players the Big 3 have , generally go to other clubs further down the country. Not sure you can associate passion with the modern day player.

Surely the only benefit to having local lads is they're used to the lower wages probably paid up north by teams.

One of the best players I've seen at the Vic, Gordon Watson, didn't even move up here. Didn't he train with Southampton or someone during the week?

Watson might have even trained on his own where he lived in the Southampton area.
He used to get the plane from Southampton to Newcastle and get driven down to Pools, especially for night games at the Vic.

Who are these 'big 3' you speak of?, Do they include teams that have won three trophies between them since 1956?

He used to live up here for part of the week up dividing his time equally between the Norton Hotel and Sunderland dogs.

Could of spent half the week with my Mrs for all I care. For a player who was finished he was streets ahead of anything at that level.
