Don't think it was their best myself but Fleetwood Mac slogged through plenty of albums, tours and line ups before coming up with the Californian coke-fuelled monster Rumours.

I know I'll probably get a pasting for this but I'll add Spartacus by The Farm.

I read an interview years ago with Peter Hooten the lead singer who admitted he couldn't sing! Then computers/synths etc came along and hey Presto him and the band sounded great and hits were created. Listen to the original "All together Now" then the "Hit" version.

Funnily enough that album was the one that finally did them in for me.
I can listen to Boy and it stills sounds fresh.

Simple Minds with New Gold Dream was their 4th album I think and was followed by Sparkle In The Rain and then Once Upon A Time. Mind the ones before that were pretty decent too like.

All 3 brilliant albums but led to them getting a bit stadium rocky and a bit pompous.

I say a bit but mean bloody massively

Mr Bishop, I happen to know that Poolie legend and wing wizard/genius Paul Dalton's favourite band circa 1990 was in fact The Farm!!! Hence the haircut I suppose which was of course height of fashion in the second summer of love :-D

Despite one of finest bodies of work of the modern age, I reckon Nick Cave's Skeleton Tree is his best....at the 16th attempt!
