About the piece on church street regeneration plans that start in January and to be completed by December 2017.

If artist impression anything to go by, should be all good.

Maybe all linked to the Millhouse plans. Sounded like plenty of funding been sorted.

If it's the same plans I saw before, they had European cafe style tables and chairs on the street outside pizza Hart. Nonsense.

Looked like it.

Its great innit?

A town falling apart. A council constantly complaining about having noe money and threatening to raise council tax.

A run down hospital with mo A&E,highlighted two weeks a go whne that poor cyclist died 200 yards away.

A town centre with nothingbut pound shops.

Yet we hear talk of Church street regeneration costing millions.

Then we have a football club.

Getting extremely close to a relegation fight.....again.

Suffering from three Winding up orders since August.

Manager claiming players need to be sold.

A chairman borrowing, god knows how much, from some wonga style lender.

Yet talk of a multi million pound Mill House master plan.

But most worrying of all, quite a lot of residents, and fans of Pools, thinking the world is rosey, and its all very exciting. I can only think these peopleare the type that get allexcited, and dressed up, when they find out their local working mens club have spent an extra fifty quid on the turn nad have got someone from out of town, which means its exotic.

Or they are just as thick as pig guano.

They've been banging out this crap for years and nothing happens. Promises, promises. They tried in the 90's by aiming for the cafe culture and vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere and it crashed.
They spent a packet on the interchange (or four bus shelters and a car park to be accurate) that's virtually bus free.
Church Street is out on a limb and a tribute to the lager/ kebab lifestyle and till someone changes that it's just gonna a be what it is.

Do you believe there's fairies at the bottom of the garden? Because we've been there before, the Marina 'vision' last year which showed shiney skyscrapers, a huge Ferris wheel and the f*****g Red Arrows flying over and ........ no progress on that front.
They promise you a bridge where there isn't a river.

Well at least it's Lottery money so shouldn't cost the towns folk of Hartlepool anything but it will 'line the pockets' of certain contractors.
The owners of the Shades will be over the moon as they will benefit from some of the freebies, before they get it they should be made to sort out their other derelict properties in the town and at Seaton.

Really....? Oh it's ok then.
Just as a matter of interest, can you enlighten us to how much 'lottery money' ?

Look stop being so negative.

If it's as good as the Transport Interchange then it'll be amazing.

I occasionally see a bus there and trains run right up until tea time. Envy of the world it is

My mate was telling me about this. Apparently they are hoping that restaurants and cafes will open up and utilise the large pavement. Which seems ridiculous to me, it's Hartlepool on the North Sea for crying out loud.

Didn't the Council have a look at the Marina before considering their latest vision where loads of restaurants have failed over the years and they had a much better outlook than Church Street.
Then again the Council opened a Cafe in the Cremotoriam at the cost of £400000 to the local taxpayer, they have still to produce accounts, although Councillor Cranney has said it can take 5 years for any business to make a profit ?

Have you all had the Hartlepool local plan leaflet shoved through your letterbox today. They want your views and have organised a load of PR meetings at different venues so we have a say. Yer right, Mathew king planning policy team leader.

Development over the next 15 years is a big bold move, just get it right next year then we'll see. Yes artists impressions look good but pictures and words are cheap.

Local jobs, housing, industry are all great plans but that's just it,LOCAL IS THE WORD.

Ok I'll explain how it works. They call a load of meetings at times anyone with a job can't attend then they try to persuade you yet again it's all just brilliant...... then they do what they were going to do in the first place. Your opinion is utterly irrelevant.
Smell the coffee.

This town is as fucked as it's Football Club. And that's coming from someone who normally wears the biggest pair of rose tinted glasses in the town. Fucked, fucked, fuckety-fucked.

So is this just a load of horseshit then? As hilarious as turning Church Street into some 'Cafe Culture' haven sounds, the family and I are moving back to the town in a couple of months and the idea of a bit of money being spent on the town sounds quite promising.

There's more chance of Jackson's Wharf becoming Harvey Nic's...

Hartlepool made the news again, we are still waiting after 2 years for the local Labour Party too investigate this, even Ian Wright has disowned them moving out of the local office albeit he won't be reselected next time as he voted for Owen Smith and the local Party were in favour of Corbyn.

We get about a 7 days worth of decent weather a year! These cosmopolitan cafes are going to do great when it's freezing in November like. The Marina is the only decent place for this type of thing, even then they tried to fuck that up by charging for parking.

To be fair, if that were the case the entire east coast of England and Scotland would have no tourist industry. And how does the weather between Church Street and the marina differ in suitability over several hundred metres. It's f**k all to do with it.
The trouble is the people who should be organising the towns long term planning haven't got a clue. For years it's been a mish made of disjointed bollox, pie in the sky fantasies and shit low paid jobs shipped in and piss poor transport links. Green industries in Hartlepool means sorting tons of other people's shit not silicone valley industries.
Even looking at the graphic gives the game away, what the f**k is an amarican school bus doing in Church Street?
Same old crap churned out ?

Just occurred to me the club and town seem to running on parallel lines. Promises of a bright future while in the doldrums. Wondering what those in charge think they're doing and worried about the future.
In both cases heard it all before and expect very little.

We have a town full of scum.

We all know it.

The cafe culture needs decent folk whose only ambition isnt to get pissed out of their minds and twat anyone that might look at them.

We do still have a very small percentage of mindless neanderthals who should have tattooed on their foreheads 'Don't buy me a drink' but it is a lot better than it was. The youngsters now are more aware of the threat but probably less equipped to handle it.
I said to one of the son's the other day 'did you turn out on black-eye Friday?' he replied 'yes', 'did you see any bother?'....'no not one bit' he said, and he'd been to Victoria Rd, Church St and the Marina. I remember when I was his age there would be a fracas every half hour, so we are making progress it would seem.

I think the more sensible ones avoid conflict and avoid the town.

My lads prefer the headland or a house party to our town centre.

And they both reckon its shite down there anyway.

They prefer newcastle or durham.

Putting a few cafes on church street wouldnt change that view.

Anyway most of the nob heads tjat cause the chew end up playing bingo in their favourite working mens club waiting for the turn by the time they are 30.

Black eye Friday...... Went out the Friday before and was dropping everyone off later so obviously not drinking. Moved the car to the car park behind the old Yorkshire Bank as we'd all gone for a meal. I walked past the bank and went to cross the road and a fat drunken lad asked me what I was looking at. "Anything I like" I replied and crossed the toad.
He was pissed and I was stone cold sober, but you can see how trouble can break out quite easily.

That café-culture picture of Church Street looks bloody horrible. Who wants to spend time in a plastic-like setting some planner had decided you should spend time in?

The whole point of places like Hartlepool, that have their own character, used to be that people could turn pubs and clubs and cafes into their own places. Someone else might have built the pub, but what happened in it, music nights or sports events, or conversations (remember those?) was created by the people who used it, over time. It has to be organic, and evolve, not be created in a flat-pack like an IKEA kitchen.

If he wasn't he ought to have been. You do need to keep these amphibians in their place.

I like the idea of conversation in a pub, but most places now seem to need music loud enough to drown out any form of conversation, probably improves the consumption of alcohol.
