At risk of starting another thread which descends into political mud-slinging, how did that muppet get so far with so much support?

Same applies for that orange fascist moron too.

The tub of lard that stood in for Roy Hattersley on Have I Got News For You would be a good shout too.

It's politics..... One nauseated me and one scared me, mix n match

That said, I've got to the stage where nothing surprises me anymore.
Like the title of the film I've learnt to stop worrying and love the bomb.

The big question to ask is, are these two the best candidates they could come up with ?

Another protest vote maybe? Again, once it sinks in they will realise what a BIG mistake they have made. After all Trump means Trump!!!

With our special relationship with the US, the lunatics have definitely taken over the Atlantic. I think it's not just 2017 that's going to be interesting, this is forever. Too much damage can be done in such a short time!

Once the EU Referendum was called, there was always a fair chance that a vote to Leave would be the outcome.

President Donald Trump is off the scale of improbability. He's not even a Republican, he's the leader of a populist insurgency. It's like Alan Sugar deciding that he wants to be Prime Minister, and hey presto, two years later he is.

To be fair to Alan Sugar he hasn't got numerous bankruptcies behind him, a track record of tax evasion that he's boasted about, a fraud trial coming up soon or a habit of grabbing women 'by the pussy'. And he doesn't seem to be racist either. Trump winning is more like an episode of Black Mirror coming true a couple of decades earlier than even the sickest mind could have imagined.

Having said that, he'll probably cut out all the populist rhetoric now and get on with the job of shitting on the ordinary Americans he conned into voting for him.

He'll be able to plead guilty of fraud then give himself a presidential pardon. Don't think for a minute he won't.

Don't rule out Le Pen winning in France either.
The experts got it horribly wrong again. When will they realise that the anti establishment protest vote is gathering global momentum.
The irony is that if ordinary folk are fed up of the establishment I would expect them to go for the parties and people of the left. Instead they are following the far right.
We had the four million who voted UKIP at the last election, which should have warned Cameron that a protest vote could happen in the Referendum. Now we have Trump and Le Pen could be next.
People are fed up of taking the hit for the mistakes and incompetence of Politicians and are kicking back by backing candidates who don't have a political track record. The bottom line is they are still politicians, however.
I personally wouldn't of voted for either of the US pair and, like Snowy, can't comprehend how they ended up with those two.
There is a theory I have which I would suggest affected the result.
The Republicans distanced themselves from their own candidate and his outrageous comments and vitriol, which effectively gave him independent status. So much so that the American people, sick, sore and tired of the establishment and their perceived failures, voted trump in as an alternative. The result is the Republicans now control all political modes in America. That is a great result for them. All they've got to do now is to control Trump, which they will do as businessmen dealing with a businessman. Trump's tone and rhetoric has mellowed already.

Certainly wouldn't dismiss Le Pen's chances and she is a very dangerous character indeed. I think enough people are aware of her and her party's deeply fascist past for her pose as a simple anti-establishment, pro-French candidate to be easy to discredit but the mainstream politicians chasing the islamophobic vote are normalising racism all the time. I'd be very surprised if she isn't in the final round and there might not be as many people prepared to wear a peg on their nose this time round.

The real danger with Mme Le Pen is that she is by a long way more eloquent than anyone in the old-school French political class.
Trump and Farage come across as buffoons. She comes across as someone who means business. And she'll be up against recycled landfill.

I think it's always been thus. The far right rose in the 30's in response to an economic crisis and the failure of the political establishment to deal with it. Similarly, the political response to the economic shocks of the 1970's was a rejection of the social-democratic consensus and the rise of the 'New Right'. The current economic crisis has precipitated a political response that is simply perpetuating that crisis, and we're seeing the results of that. Depressing times indeed.

That sums it up exactly.

And yet I know plenty that are loving this right wing swing, even though the same people are not exactly flush with cash, and will ultimately be worse off, they still love whats happening.

But of course, as long as all of the people whose skin is of a different colour to them, are sent abroad, somewhere, anywhere, they will be happy, even if they end up living ina shoe box in the middle of the road.

As long as the whites are in it together.

Nothing better than a good old race to the bottom of pile.

I see it was the 65+ age range that have now screwed America over like what happened here.

Time to put an upper age limit on voting?
Absolishion of the flu jab?
Compulsory euthanasia at 70?

Demographics are pretty striking. 8 out of 10 white non college educated men voted for Trump, was pretty clear who he was reaching out to.

Another strange quirk of democracy of course in that Clinton has slightly more votes in total than Trump due to the big cities voting for her

If you look at the results breakdown, all of redneck america voted for Trump. The bible belt, and the anti-abortion mob, and the gun lobby.

Hopefully they will get the America they deserve.

Why wait to 65 or 70? Could do a Logan's Run and bump off everybody over 30.

Just think of all the grumpy old men to be who'd be spared from decades of complaining about other people on social media.

You know it makes sense!

In years to come I can see Trump being seen as a great president in the Ronald Reagan mould.

Needless to say I'm over the moon with the result. He can actually affect stuff. A Republican Presidente with a Republican house and Senate can achieve things.

I think all those Republicans who were calling him worse than shite will now start some serious arselicking.

Considering that nearly all of the political violence, including assassinations, perpetrated in the USA in the last 50 odd years has been carried out by the Far Right, I think you're right!

To be fair to him, he never had a chance with the legislative powers against him. Its like having a Tory PM with a Labour majority. Nothing ever got through without an Executive order.

As a species we thoroughly deserve the Armageddon we seem determined to inflict on the planet. The Earth has a few billion years left, hopefully it can recover.
