Presuming he has tore his hamstring so will be a lengthy absence.

So does that force Hignetts hand into changing formation? I can't see who else we have that could fill the position he plays to be honest.

3-5-2 is a formation that I often thought Hignett fancied but you can't really fit Thomas into it?

Now could be the chance to try it?

Carroll and Richards wide, plenty of center backs on the books, should hopefully be able to control the midfield and Amond can have a partner for once?

If fewster can get fit I'd imagine he would be the likely replacement.

Need relatively pacy centre backs for 352 to work.

Thomas being injured certainly forces a rethink

You need intelligent centrebacks to make it work as well as centrebacks comfortable on the ball.

You need half decent midfielders to control midfield

Provided that cloud isn't relegation! Without his threat and ability to occupy several defenders the next 3 months look grim. Maybe Mr Coxall might have a few late xmas presents for us, like a Joel Porter type midfielder.

I think we may have benefited from selling him in January if he'd been in a bit of form. The further we slide down the table the lower his value.
As mentioned, a lot of eyes will be on Fewster to take his chance.

Step up Jack Blackford, however, he will play Oates on the left wing because he is right footed

I bet Stamford are pleased about Thomas not being available on Sunday. I wonder where our goals are going to come from now?

It's obviously a blow but let's not go over the top. Thomas has 7, but Amond is only one goal behind. Allessandra has goals in him, Paynter has scored a lot of goals. Also it's time for Laurent and Hawkins to step up and start getting on the scoresheet.

I'd play Paynter up front with Amond with Allessandra in behind, Laurent and Hawkins bombing on from midfield and Featherstone sitting. There's still goals in that team.

Oates scored for the reserves the other week, came straight back from Gateshead after his month was up.

If I was Hignett there is no chance id be risking playing anyone who isnt a regular in this game. Too much to lose.

If Pools have 18-19 year olds that have been at the club a long time, and still havent really played a first team game, you have to wonder whether they are good enough.

And like others have said, this cup game is vital, and you dont fuckabout in vital games.

Do you?

I might have a few quid on an Amond hat trick in this one. He was quite good last season against non league defences.

You are playing your wing backs on the wrong wings.

Are you Craig Hignett!?

To play Paynter up front, you would need a winger to cross the ball to the prolific goal scorer, we haven`t got any, you couldn`t thread a ball through to him from midfield as he isn`t quick enough, why would you play him?

I don't understand all this paynter bashing on going, he's started like 4 or 5 games this season and made a few sub appearances so will hardly be super sharp. Nobody was complaining last season when he did pretty well!

Hardly a bashing, do you not recall his performances at the start of the season?

Your only as good as your last result.

Well he scored twice in the first two games so he didn't start too badly! Fair enough he didn't score in the next three but he's hardly had a look in since. He's good in and around the box and gets in good area's, he's never been pacey or a target man but I still think he can do a job.

Monkeybutt spent all last season slagging him off as well while he was scoring just shy of 1 in 2 in the League.

I sit next to Monkeybutt in the Millhouse and I live 400 yards from him, we have discussed Paynter in great length and we mostly agree, I actually dislike him more than my neighbour,he was ok last year, however he has disappointed this year and is taking up a bench space of somebody who could actually score.
i will ring Monkey in a bit for his opinion of course

I know the most popular sparring partner for many of here is PJ, but Zippy seems to have got stuck in quite quickly.

He could do, but he doesn`t, because I haven`t given it to him, mainly because he can`t control his hair trigger anger fuse and I would get banned also.

I haven`t been argumentative or disrespectful, I have been reading the board for years and had to join because you can`t read it otherwise.

Is it against the board rules to disagree with PJ or what, getting stuck in quite quickly is the result of one discourse sctatchinghead

He's not got stuck in at all as I say he's been on his best behaviour I don't think I have been involved in a single piece of dialogue with him until tonight but I've thought it was him for weeks. Look at the signiture man! All this stuff about Paynter as well. I don't wish to 'spar' with him I'm just pointing out the seemingly obvious. He goes to all the reserve games as well which monkeybutt did. It would be quite a coincidence for someone who lives '400 yards away' to write in a very similar style and share similar views on players  If I am wrong I apologise, it could be his better mannered younger brother!

No I don't. I'm not arguing in this thread either. Some of your posts are fairly poor for a moderator you should be sacked.

Only joking  Still it's fairly rich when you make comments like this given the run ins you have. Pot and kettle spring to mind.

Okay I got the wing backs the wrong way around. Who else in our current squad am I meant to pick for any formation. It's not as if we have a pool of amazing players to choose from, if I could I'd fire a few Barcelona players in there
