Also think another draw is on the cards.

2-2 Amond, Deverdics (just to vex the locals).

I'm normally a bit pessimistic before games so that I'm not too gutted when we lose, but I really want us to win this so I'm going 2-1 away win.

I reckon they'll be more than up for it so will be a tight game, just hope we're up for it.

Will be nice to go to an away game that's closer than a home game. Should get home for about 6pm :)

3 nil. all goals from Thomas.
No poolies at match as they can find the ground in Grimsby.

I went to see Berwick play "The Bully Wee" last season. Great day out in a lovely old-fashioned town with very friendly people - and Berwick won.
Tomorrow: Grimsby Town 2 Hartlepools United 2 (Amond 2)
372 Poolies

This result is good news especially as we have another scorer on the sheet. I am interested in learning more about Laurent's performance from any eye witnesses.

We beat our feeder team, surely a formality! I was honestly expecting the worst today due to how Grimsby seem to always win when I've seen the footy highlights this season.

I do like being in the same division as Grimsby as we always seem to beat them quite easily. Good for Amond to get a couple he's been working his socks off and doing a great job for the team, hopefully this will set him off on a scoring run. The way Thomas is going we just need to enjoy him until January I reckon!

Fair comment about Thomas.
But surely a 7 figure sum for some other team to get his services.
That would realy piss Mansfielf off.

It would be a travesty if we didn't get a million at least for Thomas....with a good 20% see on fee for good measure

Pools today did not really get out of second gear but took the chances when they came for a change.
Good atmosphere and a good team performance all they did was try to close us down and stop us playing.
Stand out players for me Donnelly toto and what can you say about Laurent he was every where cracking young player so MoM for me.
Obviously Thomas had a quiet day but what a goal absolutely sublime and right in front of us what a cracking goal watch it tonight on telly.

He was excellent Mr Feet. First time I've seen him play a full match, but based on that he might be 'the answer' to some of our midfield problems.

Hats off to Richards too, had a very tricky player to mark but did pretty well.

Donnelly looks like a cracking player too.

1st goal looked very much offside on second look. 2nd goal poor goalkeeping. 3rd goal would probably be saved by keepers at a higher level but the effort and confidence to try it deserved the goal.

Pools October goal of the month already looking like Thomas's again.

When Thomas arrived last season his shooting was dire, so well done both to him & the coaching staff for working on that part of his game

I'm only going on sky sports highlights, hard to judge as there could be players out of picture. He does appear to be ahead of the last defender from that angle.

As you say though, it wasn't offside and that's what counts. There wasnt a massive appeal from the Cleethorpes defence.

Laurent had another fine game. He got stuck in and never stopped running. Hawkins and Deverdics played their part too. Toto and Donnelly were immense and full backs did well too. Carson made a fantstic save just before half time and a great double save after the break. Difference was we took our chances so hats off to the forward trio. Allesandra was really unlucky not to score when 3-0 up when he beat about 4 men and only had the keeper to beat but shot straight at him. Would have been a contender for Goal of the Game - the build up was so slick. The 3 subs also did their bit too.

Chuffed to fook after yesterday :)

It could've been very different though. They had plenty of possession and chances.....early doors it was corner after corner for them and every one was whipped in dangerously, one was especially close. Their lad (probably one of their centre halves) just timed his run too late and it skimmed his head.

Their two wingers were decent players - Vose and Bolarinwa - quick, bit of skill and creative. Not as good as Thomas obviously, but decent for this league. I can see how, combined with Bogle, they could create problems and score plenty. Bogle was quiet-ish but looks a decent player. Big, strong and all that. I think he'd suit a smaller, quick lad to work with.

There really wasn't much in the game at all to be fair to them but we took our chances and they didn't which is a bit of a cliche but that's exactly how it was.

First goal was thanks to a bit of quality from Alessandra coupled with shit defending. Their lad who went diving in paved the way to goal for Alessandra, I'd be fookin upset if one of our lads had done that, just hold him up, stop the run. Anyway, fuck him, he didn't Alessandra megs'd him and was really unlucky not to score himself.

Alessandra had a decent enough game and I really like the fella, decent player, happy to have him and all that but yesterday he did try the tricks just a couple of times too often for me and when he went close to scoring in the second half which would've made it 4-0 he had what I thought was a better chance to score than the the chance he actually shot on. When we came charging forward on the break (I think it was Thomas who played him in) I was convinced he would score. Took too long then put it to the keepers right when for me he should've gone for bottom left. But it's an easy game from the sidelines.

Thomas didn't really get in the game in the first half. He switched to the right wing but most of our play was down the left. Second half he came into the game much more as he played on the left. Absolutely sublime finish. Just brilliant. I'm gutted it's just a matter of time before we lose him. Can't blame the keeper. His positioning was fine, not sure anyone would've got back quick enough to tip it over. You just congratulate the scorer for goals like that. What a player. It would be great to watch him the rest of this season.

The start of the second half saw Grimsby on the front foot, the crowd got going and I feared the worst. But I think it got us going as well. So important we saw that period out.

Toto didn't do anything wrong, couple of misplaced clearances but nothing that made you think 'that was shit' or created problems for us. Pretty solid and did the obligatory Cruyff turn in the first half to leave one of their lads on his arse. Never really thought of Donnelly as a centre half but bugger me if he wasn't a bit good! Fierce in the tackle, took no shit and actually defended well. Tracked his runners, didn't dive in and he's only what..22 ish? Best I've seen him play (wasn't at the Luton game....I'm fooked for night games on a school night).

Also best I've seen Amond play I reckon. Ran his bollocks off, was in the right place for the first goal, unmarked for the second and you could question the keeper but he still put it away. Would've loved to see him get a hat trick but he was always gonna be hooked near the end to get the standing ovation.

Josh Laurent. I've said before I thought he had the quality to be a really good player for us and he's showing it. He's another who can and probably will go on to bigger/better things but he has a lot still to do - I hope he isn't another Brad Walker. I very much doubt he is though. We're not his first club and he probably feels he has something to prove. Walker has clearly hit a wall or has had a massive loss of confidence. I think he'd benefit from a loan move. Laurent nearly has it all, height, skill, speed, not shy in the tackle, decent going forward, he just needs to sort his finishing out. Can't drop him after how he played yesterday.

Hawkins was his usual industrious self. Looks like he's running through treacle but has great feet and can play his way out of trouble when under pressure. Played well.

Carrol also did well I thought, absolutely nothing in his early snapping of their lad. He wasn't even looking at him. The ball was dropping over his head and like anyone would do, you stick your leg out to bring it down out of the air, unfortunately for their lad, he connected with Carroll's outstretched leg. Looked a bad one, anyone know what happened to him?

Richards was solid enough. Don't recall anything spectacular or shitacular which will do for me.

Deverdics was similar to Richards. Played better than I've seen him play in the past. To say on paper we had a pretty lightweight midfield they actually played really well. I thought we good've been bullied but it didn't happen.

Grimsby tried to get our heads down, pressing us all over the pitch but unlike Stevenage, we coped well with it.

Changing the subject a little bit, I'm a tiny bit concerned about Paynter. Last season he was the main man and strong contender for player of the year. This season, he's spent most of it (for about the last month or so anyway) either on his arse or being outmuscled by centre halves BUT he has had absolutely NO decisions from the refs. None. He won hundreds of free kicks last season and I think he's probably won 3 this, one of which was yesterday when he came on. Still a quality player, he doesn't miss from the spot and I'd still back him to score more than he misses when in front of goal.

Carson! His saves were the turning point for me. Just outstanding. That double save. I knew then we'd go on and win. So important for a team to have a decent keeper. I'd trust him with my missus.

When I watch us win games like that and very nearly beat the top two you can't help but get a bit carried away - what are we now? 3 points off 4th??

Then a Stevenage comes along and everything's shit again.

Anyway, fuck Stevenage, that was ageas ago.

Funny old game.

Favourite part of the game: when we started singing - '....he left cos you're shit, he left cos you're shiii-iit, Padraig Amond, he left cos you're shit..' lol :)
