I am flying into birmingham monday to drive to hartlepool. Anyone drive that way much can tell me where to look out for cameras (M18 M1). I haven't driven the M1 in over 10 years. I am assuming there will be crap load of roadworks too.

about 10-15 mile of roadworks around sheffield -50 mph average speed cameras in roadworks.no need to go on the m18 stay on m1 join A1 just south of leeds

I always go M18 myself, on the advice of a mate who used to drive lorries on that stretch every week. I think it's a couple of miles longer than staying on the M1, but it's much quicker. Loads of junctions close together south of Leeds tends to cause a lot of chewy congestion.

Every Time i have stayed on M/A1 it's been clear of traffic and seemed quicker than the M18 do this journey every 5-6 weeks but it is usually off peak when i go

M18 always quicker on a clear run but not at peak times cos of the 2 lane stretch.
