Just seen they only got 1,700 fans for their last home game

With Accrington, Barnet, Newport, Dagenham and Morecambe all regularly below 2,000 it does make you wonder how they survive.

Dare I say it, also what a fantastic job John Coleman is doing at Accrington on no doubt a very small budget.

Coleman has done a great job at Accrington but I'm pretty they were in very serious financial difficulty before the new investor (who is loaded) put money into the club before Christmas.

Newport have not had a crowd below 2,000 in three seasons back in the Football League.

My apologies, thought I read there was 1,700 there last night.

No worries, 2394 including 70 away fans. See you next season (at the other end of the table of course!)

Think the announcer said the crowd was something like 2400 with 70 away fans.

First time I've been to Rodney Parade, and it looks like what it is, a rugby ground used for football. Can only vaguely recall Somerton Park from my youth as being a proper football ground.

Fair play to them, as founder members of Third Division North/South they have some history, and their fans did well to rescue the name and get them back into The Football League after what must have seemed like forever out of it.

Very jealous Chip, somerton park was just before my time and so never got to it, like fellows park (Walsall), sealand road (Chester) and Springfield park (Wigan) sadx

Got to all of those. And Victoria Park for a 0-0 draw in first match of the 87-88 season after our relegation from Division 3. As you say, Somerton Park was a proper ground. It was a bit of a dump, but at least it was our dump! Sadly, it's now a housing estate about two miles from Rodney Parade. RP does have the feel of a rugby ground, and in an ideal world would obviously like a new ground in the city like the Swansea model, but can't see the council agreeing to that. My childhood in the 70s was built on reelection battles against the likes of yourself, Halifax and Rochdale so always have a bit of a soft spot for you lot. A proper club as opposed to the Crawleys, Fleetwoods etc that have come into the League since our last stay. Good luck for the rest of the season ... see you next year!

Correct me if I'm wrong but the last time Pools played Newport County at Somerton was County 5 Pools 1. I think its great that NCFC got back into the football league after being shunted out - welcome. Always used to enjoy seeing us play the sort of Blackpool of the old 4th division with their tangerine shirts. And this is FACT. Newport County went once season losing their first 12 games and on match 13 came to Pools and drew. And I believe they finished higher than us. The old wooden stand on the Clarence Road side was "standing" then and a plank came down and just missed the linesmen. Back then they played on. Ahh the good old days before elf and safety. Look forward to doing battle again next season in this league. Mind you my son who was in 1 Rifles stationed at Chepstow says its the biggest hole in Wales. It does share a transporter bridge with the Smoggies. Enough enough enough!

I stand corrected (again...), 87/88 was my first season going regularly and was at the Torquay game also you mention (a coach load of pools fans came down and all got I think).

Point being, all the grounds I mentioned above were around then but too early for me to get to them and now all gone sadx

Eastville (Bristol rovers ) another. As the Newport fan describes, they were all indeed 'dumps' that needed replacing but just gutted that I didn't get there. I tried to get to Springfield Park once but was sat on a train with our very own 'horden' for an hour before an announcement advised no trains were leaving due to overhead lines that were down on the line.

If they are ill I'm sure they don't want you around to make them feel even worse tbh.
