Barnet are charging us £23 when we play there in a few weeks and yet most clubs fans can pay as little as £17. Basically, they aren't going to open the terrace and so are charging us the price to sit.

I'm appalled and will email Barnet and if necessary the football league. A total Piss take, 35% price increase than if you supported a club with a larger away following.

What?! £23! I was going to go to that game. But I'd be reluctant to be ripped off to that extent. As it will be a new ground for us all I'd expect a decent turn out.

Wonder if they've done it because we don't allow standing for away fans?

That means home fans must be charged the same is my understanding of pricing?

We could always do a Liverpool-style protest and leave after 23 minutes.

We'll probably be at least 2 down by then anyway.

Reply back from Barnet. In effect, they are politely saying you don't bring enough support to justify opening the terrace. Now if you were a bigger club with bigger support we'd give you the opportunity to pay 35% less........quite frankly, theposition stinks in my opinion and im going to contact the league and if necessary, the ombudsman.

"Thank you for your e-mail and we are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with our ticketing policies but hope that we are able to better explain the situation.

Our Stadium currently provides for a seated section in our West Stand for Away supporters, providing under-cover seating in a premium area of the ground with exclusive Bar access within a new London-based Stadium for a price which we consider very reasonable at £23 per person – and also equivalent to the Home seating in this area.

Currently at least, no additional Away designated areas of the ground exist. There is an overflow terrace but please note that this is precisely that, an overflow section for either Home or Away fans should the necessity arise. The overflow is not opened for under-attended games because it would unnecessarily stretch resources but when required, the price is lower in order to reflect the much fewer amenities offered.

The match you refer to has not (so far) seen ticket sales for either side which would require the overflow to be opened; of course, this would be altered should there be a change in anticipated sales.

We hope that the above better clarifies the matter and may we thank you again for taking the time to contact us. Please be assured that all comments or complaints are considered serious and copied to our Chairman. We look forward to welcoming you to The Hive London at the Barnet FC v Hartlepool match in March"

Kind regards –

I seem to remember a certain club pulling the same trick with away fans whilst charging theirs next nothing for season tickets

I can be partial to a moan or two but the email clarifies the position and not sure what there is to moan about.

Fair enough, quite surprised at your response as I think they have got this massively wrong as pools did a few years. back.

Barnet are taking the p but so did we by over-charging away fans for several seasons. Football is danger of losing the fan base with antics like this. British Athletics charged £20 at Sheffield yesterday for the British Champs. The cream of the sport in the UK. Much much better experience than watching most footy matches. Football is too expensive except for at non-league level & fans are taken for granted. Time to go to less games until clubs including Pools get the message.
