I'd gladly give up the football on Sky Sports but they've got all the other sports I like.

Split up the sports!

Still more people pay to watch championship leagues one and two combined than the Premiership. I don't get it.

disgraceful.
refuse to watch premier leauge football with what they get for each match and charging a fortune to watch it or enter the ground.
karen brady said in her column on saturday that the PL gave leauge clubs £60m (over the contract not per season)from the last deal and the league clubs should grateful.
like saying a multi-millionaire donated £2 to charity.
rich get richer while the smaller clubs get screwed by the premier league.
proud to be a poolie. know where my loyalty is. not a band wagon glory hunter.

F*cking obscene. Will be the death of the England team. Will suck in more foreigners.
Only ones to benefit will be already over paid players and their agents. Ticket prices will still go up at these clubs regardless and that will be the only trickle down effect. More money to greedy.

Interesting the BBC website has been asking was football better prior to 1992 and it certainly was more grounded in reality.

He says the Premier League is not a charity, but he (according to wiki) is "a founding board member of the Football Foundation, overseeing more than £200 million of Premier League contributions to the grassroots football charity."

Wiki also says "The Football Foundation is the United Kingdom’s largest sports charity, investing £30m into improving the country's grassroots sports infrastructure each year with money provided by its funding partners: the Premier League, The FA and the Government (via Sport England)."

Only £30m a year and not all of that comes from the PL.

I'd like to ask sports minister Helen Grant in exactly what respect is the Premier League "a great British success story"?

A great british success story where 70% of the players are from outside Britain.

Unfortunately I just wrote a pretty mammoth philosophical post that I really thought out only to close the page :-/ Here is my much shorter version anyway ...

Matt Duke in goal for Northampton last night is a cancer survivor. Referee Mark Halsey is a cancer survivor who also returned to the game. The money raised by Sunderland fans for the two Newcastle fans.

They are football success stories. Not how much money they have in the bank. Football is a game about people, not money. without us there is no game, no TV rights and no getting paid stupid wages.

They need to realise one thing and that no one person or thing is bigger than any club and its about time they started supporting the real clubs and helping real people before we are not there!

I like what the NFL did and said that games arnt allowed on tv unless the ground is full. That would bring the price of tickets tumbling down.

It looks like Steve Gibson at Boro might be the best place to start.

Each League Two club club gets about £300,000 currently don't they? It's a drop in the ocean but at the same time it's not 'fuck all' either is it?

If true you can argue that makes a huge difference at this level. That maybe so, but because of the greed at the top the gap will only get bigger and bigger.
Remember that before this deal all 20 Premier League clubs were in the worlds top 40 for income purely because of such deals.
I can't fault Scudamore, he's done his job fantastically to get such a sum. But any football fan would want a larger percentage to filter down the leagues.
If sky put their prices up, as they undoubtably will, I truly hope people start cancelling.

Also each club gets money from the Football League which will also be partly funded by the separate Sky TV deal with them, I think it's been stated that relegation would cost us about £750,000 in outside funding. So it isn't £100 million for finishing bottom but it is a bit ill informed to say it's fuck all.

Accrington's tweet gives it a bit of perspective:

Accrington Stanley @ASFCofficial · 22h 22 hours ago
The Prem Lge has a new £5bn TV deal. £10m per match. 1 game would pay our annual wage bill for the next 20 years

It’s a free market and the product is clearly in demand what do people suggest anyone does about this???

I would rather Prem clubs had the money and it trickled down the leagues in transfer fees etc. than it stayed in Murdoch's pocket.

Of course it’s a great British success story it’s a big business flourishing worldwide, whether or not it’s a good thing for the man on the street/football fans or not is a very different matter! Whether the sports minister should be saying it Im' not sure!

Pools and other lower league teams need to find ways to tap into this cash at the top level which the easiest way to do it is to sell on young quality players with a % of sell on included.

The rise up the leagues is still possible look at Southampton but what is by far more important is good business.

Too many clubs at the top level are wasting money (as they have got plenty of it) on players they have never seen (that brown fella at WBA) terrible managers (Sherwood) and owners having the wool pulled over their eyes by managers (Fernandez/'Arry).

Like I said though it all adds up to about £750,000 for a League Two club, Pools entire turnover is only around £3 million. That's a blasé attitude towards a sum of money that represents a quarter of a normal League Two clubs turnover. You would have made a cracking chairman of Darlington Football club with that sort of throwaway attitude towards cash.
