...so I'm sure some people will say my opinion is worthless but a few things struck me thinking about the game and post match reaction...

i still like the cut of the new gaffer's jib, and i hope the win was a result of his influence finally filtering through after a few weeks in charge (not sure i've expressed myself there but..)

i understand why the club is making the most of this, its a PR move. they read this board and will be aware of the negativity (even tho some of it has been ridiculously dramatic and cringeworthy from "grown" men) however, to keep fans on side, we must produce a similar performance on tuesday. i don't care who plays, as long as they put in the apparent effoer and application shown yesterday.

howard's two goals came from players getting into positions which we've hardly attacked all season (i.e get to the byline and make it difficult for defenders to stop 23 stone of lard crashing thru the back of them) we MUST do it regularly to get recoup some of Howard's wages. no striker in our division could do what howard has been asked to do so far this season.

9 points after christmas suggests the fans are from ridiculously dramatic and cringeworthy.

I think our fans have been exremely patient.

Putting "the club and PR move" in the same sentance is quite funny.

i said "some" of the reaction had been OTT. a blind man with his balaclava on backwards can see that.

i didn't say the club had made a PR coup or that i agreed with it, but that i could understand why they were making a lot of the win.

oh, and its 'sentence', not 'sentance'. ironic that a pedant such as yourself can barely read or spell. :naughty:

We won a match after a record breaking series of not winning a match. The rot was stopped for the time being, what we should not be doing is attributing something marvellous to what happened, it's like the comatose patient has finally opened their eyes, a good sign, but a long way to.go.

Those of us who were there enjoyed a thouroughly well deserved win and a good performance. It was a fantastic day out, and beating the top team in the division, especially after such a dismal run was the iceing on the cake. It felt great to be a Poolie and the celebrations went on long into the night.
However, that is now in the past. I can understand the club making the most of it - as did the fans who witnessed it. The hard work starts now. We have to build upon the positives. We won't win every game that's for sure. But wity the same amount of passion and committment we could just win a lot more than we have done so far this season. Then let's see where it takes us to.

No. He has scored 3. He missed a penalty, which you would have converted so thats 4.

How many times has he hit the woodwork this season ? At least a dozen times I'd say, most of them with headers from close range.

He missed a straightforward chance on Saturday by all accounts, he certainly missed one in the last home game, as well as hitting the post from about 4 yards out.

Some of the ones where he has hit the post its actually come off the inside of the post rather than the outside, so I would say he has been unlucky.

I agree we havent always played to his very limited strengths, but he must have had at least two dozen chances to score this season. At least.

If he could convert 50% + of his chances he'd still be playing Championship football, but he can't, so he's not.

To be fair to the bloke, in his interview on the OS, he says as much himself.
i.e He should have scored more than he has.
