Now.....I may be returning to the UK for a couple of years as part of my next contract......ill be brief, i thought this might be a good opportunity for my Korean half to come to the uk for a year and study and improve her very basic English.............so...........i contacted an english school in london, explained the situation, i would be keeping her, she would not be a burden on the state blah blah. Bearing in mind this is an English language school, which cover basic, moderate and advanced english for adults. an extract from the reply is below............

'In order to qualify for a Student Visa, your girlfriend needs to demonstrate a high level of English. Has she, for example, taken any English language examinations (IELTS tends to be the exam which is most recognized by the UKBA.)'

The visa laws are mental. Unless they've changed the law she can come on a visitors visa, to visit you, and then do a course if she wants to but she'll have to prove she is up to studying to degree level in English to get a student visa! Doesn't encourage honesty does it?
