Council to start compulsory purchase proceedings on it.

Current owners value it a £1 million, which is described by the Mayor as extremely unrealistic.

Council have the building and adjacent land valued at £60,000.

That seems as derisory for the Odeon and adjacent land as the rumoured offer made by IOR for the Vic.

Now I don't think it's worth a £1million , but I'm sure it worth more than £60k

Oh no, another council bashing thread looms.

Obviously if the council valued it at say 500k and peoples rates shot up to take account of this then they would be criticised too.

Doesn't Barrie Wilkie own it.
The same family who own the lesbian bar, the blitz down seaton and 42 fooooking second street.
Love opening a place making as much cash as possible and then when the punters go elsewhere walking away!!

I wouldn't let them anywhere near it until they have sorted out the mess they have left behind in other parts of the town.
Can't believe places like the odeon and coasters down seaton have been allowed to rot the way they have.

The council haven't got a pot to piss in.
And that's before the cuts which are due to be announced within the next 2 months.

Speaking of Seaton, that dodgy bed and breakfast near the end arcade has had a massive board on it's front window for foooking ages.
Looks great for visitors coming into the town from port clarence :)

Apparently the next one is going to be even better.

The council couldn't afford it, every property developer that has looked at it has laughed their cocks off at the asking price.

They should gut the building (Odeon), then put a set of goal posts at either end, and as from next month let Sheff Wed play all their home games there.....yuk,yuk.

i love these tall ships figures they come up with out of thin air. apparently each visitor spent £30 on average.

between me and the kids we visited 21 times and spent the grand total of a fiver.
I enjoyed it, but we went three times, drove there and parked at the Clansman and Headland for zilch and spent nowt ... and as most of the money went to out of town concerns, who in Hartlepool actually made anything ... sctatchinghead

what are the rules on compulsory purchase orders?

Funny, we were talking in the pub yesterday that the Odeon is a disgrace and that it's about time someone 'accidently' drives a truck through the front doors to bring the thing down.

I am sure that property owners are obligated to keep what they own in a reasonable condition and no doubt after numerous warnings, the council are looking to take action but lets see what unwinds.........

If I won the Euro Millions, I'd buy the Odeon and turn it into a cinema. Then I'd buy Jackson's landing and turn into Hartlepool's 'The Gate', with decent restaurants, bars and a coffee place or two.

However, I don't play the Euro Millions.

As quite a few members on this board enjoy concerts i was Just wondering, would it make a good concert hall? If so, how many concert goers could it hold? What kind of bands would it could you stage in it? Would there be adequate parking for the tour busses close by? Could be good for close by pubs, clubs and hotels.
