I installed it today on a test machine. Pretty impressive I have to say. It's got a nice feel about it, very Apple Mac and intuitive. But by god is it hungry! If you don't have 80Mb storage and at least a gig of RAM then forget it.

The downside is that it's quite technical. I pity the less than internediate / advanced user who installs this and gets a problem to fix.

No blue screens yet which is unusual for a new MS product.

XP doesn't have blue screens either though

I quite liked the look of Vista, but Microsoft in its infinite wisdom yet again tries to oust the easier to use and better competition (IE7 = Firefox's advances years ago, Vista = Mac OSX) by bringing out a bullish, complicated and inefficient system that people will buy because they have to.

I hate Microsoft btw

Oh, and IE still isn't Web Standards Compliant

Vista is totally irrelevant.

All the major features that were going to set it above other systems have been deleted and all that is left is a fancy, resource hungry interface.
And anyway it's still a long, long, way from being released. Microsoft are living on their installed base and vendor lock-in. OEMs will install Vista because MS won't let them install anything else and corporate zombies will change to Vista because they always do what MS recommend.

There may however be a lot of resistance from IT chiefs this time round. Hell, Windows 2000 already does everything they want without even upgrading to XP so why the hell change to Vista!

Microsoft have promised to attempt to make IE7 standards compliant. Notice the word "attempt"
And they have invited a Firefox development team to Redmond for some secret purpose!

After using it for a few hours I've ended up changing quite a few things in order to get it running effectively and at a reasonable speed. Guess what, I've sat back and realised that I've turned off al the flashy gizmos and ended up with windows XP.

Forget it, its just a slow version of XP with media centre bolted on.

A quick update:

If you avoid IE7 like the plague, it runs quite nicely. I've been running it with Firefox and the OS is chugging along nicely. I bet a pound to a old dog turd that Microsoft's delays on vista is all about getting IE7 to run more economically.

I still wouldn't hand over money for it.

Oh, one other thing. You cannot make anything other than IE your default browser. A bit insipid of them.
