Is it worth 145 quid a ticket? Or more precisely is it worth 725 quid for a family ticket?

Further question am I to old, at 52 to be making my debut at aforesaid festival, and could my 14, 16 and 21 year old sons cope with having their parents at the weekend of musical madness?

It's an experience you'll be glad you got. The lads will lose you in the crowd but there's plenty of people your and my age go, squire. I'll not be there this year, I've retired from the festival scene but I feel more at home there than I did at Leeds last year. I just felt elderly there!!

But yes, get yourself off if you can get a ticket and don't forget your kaftan and headband.

I've gone without a haircut and a shave for over a year know, Glastonbury in June would be a good excuse for a continuing drive towards 'hippydom'.

I think you'd enjoy if you've never been before, it's more than just the music although there's about 20 stages dotted about and you'll see almost everyone who's anyone on the bill. There's all the stuff up the hill and the atmosphere is usually great. Be ready if it rains though!!

There might be the odd Poolie working on the beer tents as well!!

I had better not make a decision in a drunken haze.

Better go to bed, have 4 and a half hours sleep, get up go to work, and make a sensible decision tomorrow afternoon, when I see what we have in our combined bank accounts. :sweet:

That's what I love about it. It also gives it a different demographic - there are loads of families so, while you'll look a little old for the dance tent (!), you'll be fine everywhere else. Life's for living, if you haven't done it yet, get it done asap. I'm sure you'll all love it!

The Who are on at Glastonbury aren't they? The Arctic Monkeys will be good as well. Anyone know who else is on?

It's usually a case of who ISN'T on. They never reveal the lineup until two weeks before because Michael Eavis always says it's not a music festival it's a garden party but there's usually reliable rumours on e-festivals.com. It won't really take shape until about the begining of May.

Oh, FFS! I hope the rumours of Springsteen and/or Police don't prove to be true as well.

Arctic Monkeys could be good by then. I was underwhelmed by them at Leeds. They simply didn't have enough good material to fill their timeslot and their set sagged badly in the middle. Hopefully they'll have more tunes by Glastonbury

The Who were surprisingly good in Hyde Park last year. I was pleasantly surprised as I thought they'd be awful.

The Police I'd say definitely not, Sting and Stuart Copeland still deeply hate each other.

Springsteen?? I wouldn't expect so, Eavis is saying 'the biggest band in the world' so you'd think the Stones or U2 who've never played it since they were a pub band but he says not U2 either.

Supertramp anyone??

Glastonbury is a totally different festival now to when I first went in 89 but I would still say if you like festivals then it is the daddy & has to be experienced at least once, preferably twice, one sunny & one rainy,as a rainy Glastonbury has to be experienced to be believed.

Last Glastonbury I decided Id had enough,Id been 12 times & it was getting a bit repetitive so didnt bother getting a ticket.About a month after the tickets were sold I got an email saying something along the lines of
"We have your name on file as using our disabled parking facilities & we want some disabled staff, you get a free ticket, meals provided, petrol money & can bring a friend"
Since then Ive worked at Leeds & Reading too & much prefer it to being a customer, especially at Glastonbury last year, finishing work at Midnight & being able to go sit in the backstage bar* & have a few pints instead of trudging through mud with warm cans.
These days if Im gonna pay for a festival I'd much rather go to somethin small like The Wickerman.

*Nothing glamorous, theres various levels of backstage & the bars I got to use were used by staff & press,no artists

You rarely get anyone famous in the bars anyway, with the exception of one John Peel who always frequented that bar with his family.

One year Keith Allen set up a karaoke where Groovy's on about and Jarvis Cocker got conned into doing Saturday Night by Whigfield but he got canned off.

That was amusing.......

Suprisingly they've put their differences aside for a 30th anniversary reunion, I think it's pretty nailed on.

last time I saw the Arctic Monkeys was in front of a hundred or so people in the m'Boro Empire. I wonder how that will translate to a massive outdoor stage. they've got a couple of anthems that'll hold up well I reckon.

Apparently there were problems at both Leeds & Reading last year with morons invading the disabled viewing platforms while Arctic Monkeys were on & shoving wheelchairs out of the way with the excuse 'We're friends of the band & they promised we could use this platform'.
I would suggest when they play would be a good time to watch a band on another stage

PC and I went to see Peter Gabriel twice in 5 days a couple of years ago. If she finds out that he will be there, with or without Genesis, she will be insisting on us going.
